Jackson spent three years at UConn and capped his career off like every athlete dreams about doing. He is now in the 2023 NBA Draft.
As a four-star recruit out of New York, Jackson signed with UConn. In his freshman season, Jackson averaged 2.7 points as a reserve. The Huskies lost in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament that season. In 2021-2022, Jackson stepped into the starting lineup, averaging 6.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Despite Jackson’s improvements, UConn lost in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament as well. Last season, Jackson averaged 6.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. His play helped UConn win the 2023 National Championship.
Following a great NCAA Tournament run, Jackson declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. He is now projected to be a late first or early second round pick.
Andre Jackson Strengths
Jackson is one of the most athletic players in the class. He is quick, can run fast and jump high. Jackson also has excellent body control. He shines when running the floor in transition and can finish plays with highlight-reel dunks. Defensively, he can match up athletically with plenty of athletes who are currently in the NBA.
Even though he isn’t a point guard, Jackson is a very talented passer who can set up his teammates. He averaged 4.7 assists per game, which is incredible for a player who wasn’t the primary ball-handler for UConn. He sees the floor well and keeps the ball moving.
His defense is very intriguing. Jackson uses his athleticism and wingspan to his advantage, as he can guard multiple positions on the perimeter. He uses his quick foot speed to stay in front of opponents and limits penetration into the paint. Jackson has good awareness to jump passing lanes and can also help his teammates by protecting the rim a bit if they are beaten as well.
Andre Jackson Weaknesses
Jackson is not a very good shooter. He shot 28.1 percent from 3-point range last season and shot just 29.3 percent from deep over his collegiate career. Jackson will need to improve his efficiency from deep to pose more of an offensive threat and to stay on the floor.
The shooting struggles extend to the free throw line, where Jackson shot just 70 percent for his career and 64.6 percent last season. He is a player that attacks the basket a lot, so he needs to convert when he goes to the free-throw line.
While he is a good passer, Jackson should not be used as the lead operator of the offense. He needs some work on running the pick and roll more effectively. A player that is a better ball-handler can run the offense, while Jackson develops more.
Projected Draft Range: Late First Round Pick-Early Second Round Pick
