The Houston Texans have fired head coach Lovie Smith according to John McClain. Smith posted a 3-13-1 record in his one season in charge of the Texans.
With the firing of Smith, the Texans will have four different coaches in four seasons starting next season. David Culley was fired last season after winning four games. Smith was then promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach.
Before his time with the Texans, Smith was a head coach for the Chicago Bears and the Illinois Fighting Illini. He has an NFL record of 91-100-1. He won the Coach of the Year award in 2005 and took the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006.
The Texans will continue to rebuild with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They went into the weekend in place for the top pick, but with their win and a Chicago Bears’ loss, the Texans dropped in the draft order.
