One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 6. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
1. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are the 15th-ranked fantasy defense this season, scoring 5.4 points per game. They have a double-digit scoring performance against Atlanta in week 2, when they scored 11 points. In week 5, they scored no points against the 49ers. On the season, they have 10 sacks, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
Los Angeles will play the Carolina Panthers in week 6. Not only have they fired head coach Matt Rhule, but they have also turned the reins over to P.J. Walker due to an injury to Baker Mayfield. The potential for the Rams to have a huge day is right in front of them. They are rostered in 47.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers rank 31st as a fantasy defense, as they averaged 2.6 points per game. They have a double-digit performance in week 1 against the Raiders. Unfortunately, they have two negative-scoring performances with the most recent one coming in week 5 to the Browns. They have 11 sacks and six interceptions on the season.
In week 6 the Chargers play the Denver Broncos, who have struggled to get their offense going this year. Quarterback Russell Wilson hasn’t played well and is banged up. They score 15 points per game, which ranks 31st in the league. While the Chargers haven’t been good this year defensively, they should be able to have a solid performance against the Broncos. They are rostered in 45.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati has the 11th-ranked fantasy defense this season, scoring 6.4 points per game. They scored 15 points in their performance against the Jets for their season-high. Their season-low is three points, which came against the Cowboys and Ravens. The Bengals have five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and eight sacks on the season.
The week 6 matchup for the Bengals is with the New Orleans Saints. They are scoring 23 points per game, but are pretty banged up. Jamies Winston and Michael Thomas have missed time with injuries. Cincinnati is a good defense regularly and can be played most weeks. They are rostered in 26.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Washington Commanders
The Commanders have the 27th-ranked defense and are averaging 3.2 points per game. Their best performance was in week 5 against the Titans when they scored seven points. They scored negative points against the Lions in week 2. Washington has one interception and 14 sacks on the season.
In week 6 the Commanders play the Chicago Bears. The Bears score just 17.2 points per game and don’t have much of a passing attack to burn the Commanders. Washington can be a decent play in fantasy if other options are exhausted. They are rostered in just over 20 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis is the 14th-ranked fantasy defense, scoring six points per game. They had their best game against Denver in week 5 when they scored 12 points. Their worst performance came in week 2 when they took on the Jaguars, as they scored 0 points. They have three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 11 sacks on the season.
The Colts take on the same Jaguars that they played in week 2 this week. Although they scored no points in the first matchup, the defense has improved, while the Jaguars have cooled off. They are averaging just 13.5 points per game over their last two contests. Indy may be able to take advantage. They are rostered in 45.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
