The Eagles are just a day away from their second preseason game, but this time it will not be at home. Philadelphia will play the Browns in Cleveland at 1 p.m. on Sunday. This game is a second chance for fans to get a second look at this Philadelphia team. Philadelphia was up and down in their first preseason game against the Jets. The Eagles played well in the first half but squandered their lead and lost in the second half. This game against the Browns should go better since they have a game under their belt now. This article will give a game preview of the Philadelphia Eagles preseason match up against the Cleveland Browns.
Looking at the Opponent
The Cleveland Browns are coached by Kevin Stefanski. He led this Cleveland team to the Playoffs for the first time in a long-time in 2020. Not only did they go to the playoffs, but they beat their rival the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now the Browns are dealing with a different team this year. There is no Baker Mayfield leading the charge, as he is now with the Carolina Panthers. Their quarterback situation is complicated. They signed Deshaun Watson in the offseason who had many legal allegations against him. He finally got cleared to play football again, but now he faces the NFL’s penalty which is an 11-game suspension. Now, it seems like Jacoby Brissett will start when the season begin.
Furthermore, Cleveland has one of the best running attacks in the League in Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb. They also acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper during the offseason, who has shown with the Cowboys how much he impacts games. However, it is not certain what starters will see action and which ones will sit.
Eagles Players to Watch
Offense
One of the most interesting players to watch in this game is Jalen Hurts. As of this writing, it is not known how much playing time he will get in this game. It could two or three drives this time, but the Eagles like to protect their young quarterback. He had a perfect game against the Jets, and we will see what will happen this time around.
Furthermore, the Eagles played Miles Sanders for the first series but sat out Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott for the entire game. Jason Huntley got most of the reps against the Jets. In addition, Huntley deserves to get even more this week as he played his heart out both as running back and on special teams. We will see what he has to offer against the Browns. Lastly, WR Zach Pascal showed a-lot last game. It would be nice to see more of him this time around.
Defense
A lot of the rookies on defense really shined in the Eagles last week. Hopefully they will do the same this week. Nakobe Dean showed that teams may have been wrong not picking him earlier in the draft. He looks really good and could be force for the Eagles in the future. The same goes with Jordan Davis, who looked good on the Eagles defensive line. Expect these two former Georgia players to show more of the same in this game. Furthermore, Reed Blankenship was the leading tackler in Philadelphia’s first preseason game. It will be interesting to if he can show more of the same in this game. He is capable of being real gem for the Eagles in the future. Lastly Kyzir White had the only turnover in the Eagles last game. Be on the lookout for him, but do not expect him to play much.
Overall, these preseason games are all about showing making statements to be the final roster and preparing for the regular season. Winning is always nice, and the Eagles will play to win on Sunday. However, it is more about getting reps and growing as a team during these games. Make the mistakes now and be ready when the season begins. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles Game preview.
