After a week off from competitive play, the mobile main tank is back on the menu. Wrecking Ball was disabled last week in both the Overwatch League and the Overwatch 2 beta due to a game breaking bug. Luckily the developers were able to fix the issue, and now Wrecking Ball won’t be able to kick every player out of the lobby with a simple trick. Sean Miller of the Overwatch League made the announcement eariler in the week on Twitter, noting that Wrecking Ball will be available for pros to use in Overwatch League this weekend.

The initial ban of Wrecking Ball did not affect the Overwatch League too much, as internal statistics showed that teams weren’t using Hammond much at all. Teams in the opening weekend favored Winston and Doomfist as dive tanks over Wrecking Ball. After seeing the success with the other two tanks, Wrecking Ball might not see play in the upcoming set of games either.
Though this is only the case for North American teams. The APAC teams have yet to take the stage in 2022, and their compositions typically differ ever so slightly from their NA compatriots. Several teams like the Chengdu Hunters and the Shanghai Dragons could be practicing Wrecking Ball in their scrims, but fans won’t know until their turn to play in Week 3.
The Overwatch League continues this weekend with a slate of games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Teams will be playing on the initial beta version, so any recent patches have yet to be added to OWL. Games kick off on Friday 3 PM EST on Youtube.
