The first week of the official Call of Duty season was full of surprises to say the least. There are a lot of things to talk about when it comes to the very first week in the CDL. It could possibly be one of the craziest first weeks in Call of Duty League history. Let’s take a look as to why it was so surprising as we get into the CDL Major 1 Qualifying Week 1 Recap.
Friday Matches
London Royal Ravens vs Florida Mutineers
The match between the London Royal Ravens and the Florida Mutineers was full of surprises. One of the surprising things within this match was the play of the Mutineers. It was almost as though they did not know how to play Call of Duty against the Royal Ravens. Every player on the Mutineers posted a negative K/D ratio. The Royal Ravens just proved to be too much for the Mutineers, losing 3-0.
Boston Breach vs Los Angeles Guerrillas
This game lived up to all expectations. The match between these two teams might have told a lot about both. Asim struggled to find his way during the match. However, Boston and Capsidal proved to get the upper hand against the Guerrillas, 3-2. It seemed like LAG might still be a force to be reckoned with.
Seattle Surge vs New York Subliners
The Seattle Surge proved to be one of the best teams in the game. Hydra held his own for the Subliners, however, the rest of his teammates could not as they ended up getting crushed by Sib and Pred of the Surge, 3-0. New York has a lot to improve over this performance alone.
Saturday Matches
Atlanta FaZe vs Paris Legion
The match went down to the wire. Simp was struggling, which made Cellium and Arcitys step up to eventually get the upper hand in map five to win the series, 3-2. John and Paris showed great promise the entire map with the team’s communication and gunskill in and around the map.
London Royal Ravens vs OpTic Texas
If you are an OpTic fan, this is yet another heartbreaking map 5, round 11, loss to the opposing team, in which they should have beaten. It was almost as though the king, Scump, was the only one on the map playing for OpTic. However, with the play by London, it could not have been more perfect to start the season off 2-0.
Seattle Surge vs Toronto Ultra
This was a great game in the sense that it created a rivalry it. This was the rematch of the Kickoff Classic final. The Seattle Surge and Sib, yet again, proved to be too much for the Ultra, as Toronto ended up losing in heartbreaking fashion in map five of the series.
New York Subliners vs Los Angeles Guerrillas
This proved to be a disaster for the New York Subliners. Crimsix and Clayster struggled against the likes of Slasher and Asim. Asim proved to be the x-factor in the game, regaining confidence from his previous outing versus Boston. Los Angeles ended up winning the series in four maps.
Sunday Matches
Paris Legion vs Florida Mutineers
Unfortunately, not a lot of people watched this map. This could have possibly been a game between the two worst teams in the league. However, the Mutineers and the young gun in Davpadie and Owakening proved to be enough for the Florida Mutineers to get a pretty convincing series, winning 3-1.
Atlanta FaZe vs Los Angeles Thieves
There were a lot of expectations going into this game. Many thought that this match was the match of the week. However, after the first map, it proved to be anything but that. FaZe, after barely winning versus Paris, wanted to prove everybody wrong that they were not the number one team in the world anymore. Simp and Cellium turned up and ended up winning 3 straight maps winning the series, 3-1, against the struggling Thieves.
Minnesota ROKKR vs OpTic Texas
This was the last game of the week and it did not disappoint. However, for OpTic fans, it could not have gone any worse than it already was. This is the fact that Texas ended up losing the exact same way they did in their match against the Royal Ravens, losing in round 11 of a map five.
Overall, this week of matches was very exciting. Who knows what is to come for these upcoming weeks in qualifying for the first major of the Call of Duty League season. Could there be more upsets? Or will it be more of the same? Who knows what will happen next week in their matches.
