Going into the halfway point of the summer split, Dignitas will look to get in rhythm in their three week five matchups against TSM, Golden Guardians and Immortals.
The team has struggled immensely in the past two weeks picking up a disappointing record of 1-5 in their six games. Roster changes have played a big role in these struggles as the substitutions of their Mid Laner Max “Soligo” Soong and Jungler Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett early in the split have evidently hurt the team. The team currently sits in sixth place with a record of 15-15 and with half the split ahead of them, the black and yellow still have enough time to get better and move up the standings. Here are three things Dignitas needs to do for a successful week five:
1. Show Chemistry Improvement
The biggest thing Dignitas will have to prove in week five is that their chemistry as a team has gotten better. In the past two weeks, and even throughout the entire season, this issue has constantly come up and has been noted as one of the biggest reasons for the team’s struggles. The communication that comes from chemistry is the most obvious struggle DIG is currently having as can be seen through their blown early game leads and weak macro play.
Last week Dignitas could have easily gone 3-0, but due to the poor team chemistry and communication that was present, they ended up blowing two leads and walking away with only one win. As their record reaches the .500 mark they can no longer afford to drop games like this. If they want to be serious about this split then DIG must develop their team chemistry and take advantage of games in which they have leads in.
2. Let Bot Lane Cook
The silver lining for Dignitas’s garbage fire of a split is the performance behind their Bot Lane. The duo of Neo and Aphromoo has looked very strong through their 12 games on the season, particularly in the early game. They have secured early lane kills several times this season and are usually the reason behind the many early game leads that DIG has had thus far this split.
If DIG wants to win some of their games this weekend they must get Neo and Aphromoo on a roll. The duo could probably do this on their own so there really will be a lot of pressure on the top half of the map. Aaron “FakeGod” Lee, Matthew “Akaadian” Higginbotham and David “Yusui” Bloomquist must play their macro game correctly to help effectively transition their strong Bot Lane into the middle and later stages of the game. If they can get into these positions, the duo can most certainly carry the team to a win.
3. Yusui Needs to Show Up Late Game
Ever since the surprising move of him being named the starter after week one, Yusui has exceeded expectations in his first couple of weeks on Dignitas. The Mid Laner plays quite a strong early game playstyle and has gotten into several situations where he is several kills up on champions such as Viego and Lee Sin. Despite being in a position to carry, he has failed to do so in several of his games.Yusui will need to learn how to transition his lead into the later stages of the game. If Yusui gets some early kills in the games this weekend and can’t convert it into later game success, then DIG will have a really hard time securing another win under their belt.
