1. Joe Weiskcamp Iowa
Weiskcamp had a terrific Junior season for Iowa being one of the best wings in the country. First off, his efficiency as a shooter is excellent 46.2% from the three-point line being elite off the catch. Next, he moves really well off the basketball getting in a great position to score. Additionally, he is great in transition spotting up on the perimeter and getting to the basket. Continued, he moves really well off the ball as a cutter as well consistently getting easy opportunities at the rim. Also, he is great on the boards being a consistent contributor on both ends of the floor. Additionally, he brings really good footwork on the perimeter and can post up as well being really smooth there for scoring opportunities. The overall efficiency and ease of Weiskcamp on the offensive end are impressive. As for defensively, he is really good on the perimeter with his activity and positioning. As well as, having the size and lateral movement to contain the basketball and be a factor off the ball too. Joe Wieskamp will be one of the best players in college basketball if he returns to Iowa.
2. Buddy Boeheim Syracuse
Boeheim had a breakout season for Syracuse and by the NCAA tournament was one of the best scorers in the country. Furthermore, he has really good size to get shots over defenders and his movement on the perimeter off screens and consistently getting great position on the perimeter. Also, he has improved his ability to put the ball down for pull-up jumpers along with being able to get to the rim. Next, his footwork on the perimeter is impressive being able to use head fakes as well to create separation for his shot. Additionally, his quick shot release is really good matched with his effectiveness at 38.3% from three. Continued, he is a great threat in transition with the shooting range Boeheim has and his ability to be a knockdown catch and shoot player. Now defensively, he is solid in the 2-3 zone with his positioning and size. Buddy Boeheim will be one of the best scorers in college basketball entering next season for Syracuse.
3. Patrick Baldwin Jr. Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Baldwin Jr. will be one of the best players in college basketball and should have massive numbers in the Horizon League. Furthermore, he will add offense with his ability to make shots with consistency from the perimeter. Next, he has a very good basketball IQ and skill set that makes him an even more difficult matchup with his athleticism. Also, he will be able to be a catalyst offensively with his scoring ability either on or off the basketball. Along with, being matchup problems he will cause in most games especially in the Horizon League. Patrick Baldwin Jr. should have an extraordinary freshman season before going to the NBA draft.
4. Jaime Jaquez Jr. UCLA
Jaquez Jr. had a very good sophomore season for UCLA being a large part of their run to the Final 4. Now, Jaquez Jr. does a very good job of getting in the lane and utilizing his footwork to navigate to get great looks at the basket. Continued, he is really good off the dribble attacking the rim strong, and being efficient as a finisher at the basket. Next, he is very effective as a catch-and-shoot player from the perimeter at 39.4% from three. Also, he plays with really good toughness being able to play through contact consistently. Additionally, he plays well off the basketball getting set as a shooter, and cuts well to the basket. Jaquez Jr. has the ability to be a three-level scorer and the size to make tough contested shots. Now defensively, he plays with good effort and has the size to guard multiple positions. He could improve his lateral movement to be a stronger perimeter defender. Jaime Jaquez Jr. will be one of the best wings in college basketball and be a part of a really good UCLA team going after a National Championship.
5. Justice Sueing Ohio State
Sueing had a really good impact on Ohio State’s success in his first year playing in the program. Now, the versatility of Sueing being able to contribute in the aspects of scoring, rebounding, and playmaking with his positional size. Next, he does a really good job of getting into the lane utilizing his body and finishes well around the basket. Further, he plays well off the basketball staying active as a cutter and rebounder allowing him to make plays around the basket. Also, he is an effective shooter from the perimeter shooting 36.1% from three being reliable when needing to make key shots. Continued, he draws a lot of contact in the lane allowing him to get to the foul line pretty consistently. The ability of Sueing to contribute in various aspects without being ball dependent is massive towards the success of Ohio State. As for the defensive end, he needs to be more consistent with his positioning and utilize his length on the basketball. As well as, being a more productive help-side defender on penetration. Justice Sueing will be imperative towards Ohio State’s pursuit of a National Championship.
6. Jermaine Samuels Villanova
Samuels has good size and brings good versatility on the wing for Villanova next to Saddiq Bey. He’s a very solid cutter which opens up easy opportunities for plays at the rim and 3’s for others. Furthermore, he’s a solid catch and shoot 3pt shooter but has had inconsistencies that must improve upon for next season. Additionally, he plays very well within his role and contributes effectively on the boards. He has good athleticism and is not great but always finds himself in a good position to score and moves well off the ball. Also, he could look to attack more when he has the size or quickness advantage on the wings. Samuels is a very solid offensive player who will play a crucial part in Villanova’s success. As for the defensive end, he must improve his strength because he can be matched up with bigger players with Villanova’s roster construction. Also, he needs to improve his positioning at certain times guarding the ball too closely. Samuels and Bey could create one of the best wing tandems in the country looking to help Villanova win the National Championship.
7. Lucas Williamson Loyola Chicago
Williamson had a very good season for Loyola Chicago and his ability to shut down the perimeters best player is valuable. First off, he plays with great physicality being able to get to the basket well and draw contact. Also, he is effective from the perimeter shooting 35.9% whether in the half-court or transition. Next, he is effective off the dribble is well with being able to get midrange effectively. Also, his ability to drive the basketball at will is really difficult for opposing guards to stop the basketball. Continued, he makes an impact on the boards on both ends by contributing towards 2nd chance opportunities. Now defensively, he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the country with his size and physicality. Also, he contains basketball very well with his activity and versatility to guard multiple positions. Lucas Williamson will look to lead Loyola Chicago back to the NCAA tournament yet again.
8. Jalen Wilson Kansas
Wilson after redshirting showed major growth in his game having a breakout season for Kansas. Now, the consistency in his game will be imperative for Wilson to become one of the best players in the country to reach his potential. Next, he has the ability to attack the basket with his size and length. Additionally, he stretches the floor with his three-point shooting ability at 33.3% from three. Continued, the ability to put the ball down and use his size allows him to attack wings that don’t have the size Wilson has. Also, improving his overall strength would make him a more consistent driver being able to finish through contact. Wilson provides rebounding on both ends and giving 2nd chance opportunities for Kansas. The shooting of Wilson from all areas could take the next step up making him a very difficult matchup for defenses. As for defensively, he has all the physical traits with his size and length on the basketball especially. He needs to have more of an edge defensively to really be an impact defender. Jalen Wilson is testing NBA draft waters if he returns, Wilson will be one of the best players in the Big 12 looking to lead Kansas to a deep NCAA tournament run.
9. Matthew Mayer Baylor
Mayer played a significant role on the bench for Baylor winning the National Championship and will have an elevated role next season. Furthermore, Mayer brings a scorer mentality with the ability to be a bucket getter for Baylor. Continued, his size allows him to get shots over defenders very well from the perimeter and the mid-range. Also, he is really good off the catch from three shooting 39.5% whether in the half-court or transition. Next, he has the ability to attack off the bounce and gets to the mid-range really well. Additionally, he has unnoticed athleticism allowing him to make plays around the basket and a factor rebounding-wise. Further, Mayer’s movement without the basketball includes basket cuts where he is really effective in getting behind the defense. As for the defensive end, he has good size and brings effort on that end. He could continue to develop his ability to really contain the basketball. Matthew Mayer is going to a massive season for Baylor in his more prominent role.
10. Peyton Watson UCLA
Watson will look to pair up with Jaime Jaquez and Johnny Juzang to make one of the best perimeter wing groups in college basketball. Next, he will add to the defensive end for UCLA with his versatility and athleticism. Furthermore, matched with having a length and the motor will be a key addition for UCLA. Additionally, he will have the ability to grow offensively throughout the season with the veterans UCLA returns. Continued, he very well could be the player who puts UCLA over the top toward National Championship expectations. Peyton Watson will be one of the best freshmen in college basketball next season.
