The Bears have released left tackle Charles Leno. The former seventh round pick had been in Chicago for seven years since being drafted in 2014. He will now become a free agent and any team will have the right to try to sign him.
The NFL’s Ian Rapoport released the news via Twitter on Monday afternoon.
The #Bears will be releasing LT Charles Leno, source said, their starter the last seven seasons. A surprise move. Chicago drafted OK St’s Teven Jenkins in the second round and plans to play him on the left side. Leno now available for LT-needy teams.

The Bears’ move to release Leno comes directly after the team drafted Oklahoma State’s Teven Jenkins in the second round. Jenkins is a huge tackle prospect who has the potential to be one of the biggest steals of the 2021 NFL Draft.
There is no longer room for Leno on the line, as he is a strict left tackle and Chicago wants to start Jenkins at the position immediately. He could now be of great value as a veteran player at one of the most important positions on a team.
