The Chicago Bears re-signed Tashaun Gipson on Monday to a one-year deal, per Dan Graziano of ESPN.
The 2020 NFL Season was Gipson’s first year with the Bears, and he played quite well. Gipson started 16 games with the team and ended with two interceptions, seven pass deflections and 66 tackles. He also showed up in Chicago’s sole playoff game, with eight tackles and a strip sack in the Saints territory.
This is the first time since 2018 that the Bears have brought back both starting safeties. The team is likely looking for stability on the defense. Re-signing Gipson is a good, inexpensive acquisition that can accomplish that goal.
Gipson, a 10 year veteran in the NFL, is aging at 31 years old. However, he is still a reliable player in the NFL and will be returning as the Bears starting strong safety in 2021.
