Chicago Bears wide receiver Anthony Miller is reportedly on the trade block this offseason. Miller, a 2018 second round pick, has not quite panned out despite having potential.
Part of his struggles in Chicago relate to his mindset. He is inconsistent and has shown charcter issues at times. This was front and center in the Bears playoff game last year. Miller was ejected in the third quarter for getting into a fight with Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, the New Orleans Saints safety.
It makes sense that the Bears want to trade Miller. Chicago is fed up with him and seems as if the feeling is reciprocated. The Bears are open to trade Miller, and while his trade value is not high, some team might be willing to trade a day three draft pick in exchange for the talented but disappointing player. Which three teams would likely be the most willing to give up such a draft pick for Anthony Miller?
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are severely lacking at wide receiver. They currently have seven wideouts on the roster, but they are all pretty average. Their best is probably Travis Fulgham, who finished the 2020 NFL season with 63 targets, 38 receptions and 539 receiving yards in 13 games.
Philadelphia especially needs playmakers to help out second year quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts took over for Carson Wentz for the last four weeks of the season and performed fairly well. However, the inexperienced quarterback needs help. It is possible that the Eagles draft a receiver to provide such help, but either way, the roster is not exactly setting up Hurts for success.
The Eagles need to help raw quarterback Jalen Hurts by acquiring a weapon. If they decide to go another route by selecting a quarterback in the draft, getting such a weapon would also be important for his development. Either way, Anthony Miller, would be a top target on the Eagles roster for a low price.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are also desperate for a receiver. At the moment they only have four wideouts worthy of a roster spot – Marquise Brown, Sammy Watkins, Miles Boykin and Devin Duvernay. While all of these players could make the team, none of them are deserving of a label of top receiver. The only two that are arguably better than Miller are Brown and Watkins, and they both certainly have their flaws.
Anthony Miller would also appeal Baltimore due to his specialty as a slot receiver. Brown and Watkins are much more fit to play on the outside. Therefore, Boykin and Duvernay are left as those to line up in the slot. Miller, while not a great option, is better suited than any Ravens receiver to fill that role.
The Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the best in the league. However, with the weapons on his roster, he cannot play to his full extent. Anthony Miller has the potential to be a cheap, play-making acquisition for a Baltimore team that needs such players.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are another team without great depth among wideouts. At the moment, they only have four on the roster. Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley are studs, but Christian Blake and Olamide Zaccheaus are underwhelming. Just like the situation in Baltimore, Anthony Miller would come in as arguably the third best wide receiver on the team.
Despite his role as the third best receiver on the team, Miller would likely get less targets than he would on the Ravens or Eagles. Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley are elite wide receivers and quarterback Matt Ryan would be happy targeting them over anyone else.
The Falcons would be less likely to give up much draft capital to acquire Miller, even if it is a late round pick. They are not as needy for playmakers as the Ravens are. However, Atlanta might be interested in getting a wide receiver to add solid depth at the important position.
