Just two more weeks remain before the SEC Championship game. December 5 was originally planned to be the final week of the season. With so many reschedulings due to COVID, only two teams are wrapping up their season this weekend.
Standings
Only one change in the standings happened after last week. Ole Miss’s fourth win of the season put them in fourth place in the West, while LSU’s loss dropped them back to fifth. Alabama and Florida can lock their place in the SEC Championship this year with a win this weekend.
Even with the scheduling changes it’s going to be troublesome to get all the games in. The good news though is each team should be able to get at least nine games in.
Rankings
- No.1 Alabama (8-0)
- No.5 Texas A&M (6-1)
- No.6 Florida (7-1)
- No.8 Georgia (6-2) +1
As has been the story over the latter half of the season, the top of the rankings didn’t move. Georgia jumped one spot after Northwestern lost to Michigan State. And Auburn dropped out of the top 25 after being blown out by Alabama.
Week 10 Recap
Last weekend’s games saw mostly blowouts once again. Missouri shutout out Vanderbilt 41-0, Florida defeated Kentucky 34-10, Alabama cruised by Auburn 42-13 and South Carolina was no match for Georgia falling 45-16.
The Egg Bowl ended up coming down to the final play of the game. Mississippi State trailed for the entire game but brought it to 31-24 with two minutes to go. A 36 yard Hail Mary to the endzone as time expired halted the comeback as Ole Miss held on to win their first Egg Bowl since 2017.
The LSU and Texas A&M saw little excitement but was a closer affair than most. The Aggies defense stifled LSU’s offense all night resulting in a change at quarterback in the second half. An interception return for a touchdown late in the third quarter sealed it for Texas A&M as they won 20-7.
Week 11 Predictions
*Odds as of 12/3
12pm ESPN: No.5 Texas A&M (6-1) @ Auburn (5-3), Texas A&M -6.5
Texas A&M is trying to put together a nice resume for the chance to make the College Football Playoff. Auburn won’t get in the way of that. The Aggie defense has stifled opposing offenses the last two games, allowing just ten total points to South Carolina and LSU.
Auburn does not have the offensive power keep up with Texas A&M. Bo Nix had a rough showing against Alabama with no scores and two interceptions. Look for Isaiah Spiller to continue to pace the Aggie offense on the way to a win.
Prediction: Texas A&M covers
12pm SECN: Arkansas (3-5) @ Missouri (4-3), Missouri -3
The rescheduled game from last week due to Arkansas COVID-19 issues will be played this week. Missouri is coming off a 41-0 domination of Vanderbilt last week. Freshman Connor Bazelak had another great game continuing what has been a good first year.
Feleipe Franks and Arkansas should have one more win left in them. With Alabama the last remaining team on the schedule, that win should come against Missouri. The Razorbacks just came up short against LSU in their last game. They should be in the win column for this one.
Prediction: Arkansas covers
3:30pm CBS: No.6 Florida (7-1) @ Tennessee (2-5). Florida -17.5
This game should easily be in hand for Florida, it’s just a matter of if Tennessee will cover. The Volunteers did have an off week last week which might help them play better in this game. Jeremy Pruitt’s seat has been getting hotter over the five game losing streak. Still, no players have opted out yet which shows some fight left.
Unfortunately Florida has been mostly unstoppable this year. Kyle Trask is one of the Heisman favorites and has shown why. He has 12 touchdowns and 0 interceptions over his last three games, and hasn’t thrown an interception since a November 7 game against Georgia. Florida’s overpowering offense should help them cover this spread.
Prediction: Florida covers
4pm SECN: Vanderbilt (0-8) @ No.8 Georgia (6-2). Georgia -35.5
Vanderbilt’s disaster season continues as once again there have been more questions this week as to whether the Commodores will have enough players. Still, as of now they have the numbers required.
After a monster first game for Georgia, quarterback JT Daniels had a less than stellar performance last week. The Bulldogs focused mainly on the running game to take care of South Carolina. You can probably expect more from Georgia as Vanderbilt won’t keep this close.
Prediction: Georgia wins, Vanderbilt covers
7:30pm SECN: South Carolina (2-7) @ Kentucky (3-6), Kentucky -11.5
Highly rated Luke Doty got his first start for South Carolina last week against Georgia. It wasn’t a huge day by any means but 18/22 passing was a good sign for the young quarterback. He should have a stronger showing against Kentucky this week, particularly through the use of his legs.
Kentucky put up a good fight in the first half against Florida but disappeared in the second half. That can’t happen this week against South Carolina. The Wildcats struggled to get the ball moving on the ground with only 159 yards. Their lack of offensive potency makes the 11.5 spread questionable to cover.
Prediction: Kentucky wins, South Carolina covers
8pm CBS: No.1 Alabama (8-0) @ LSU (3-4), Alabama -29.5
The revenge game we all want to see. After LSU’s first win in the series since 2011, the Tigers players and head coach made some disrespectful comments towards the Crimson Tide afterwards a year ago. While Saban has said that isn’t a factor for him, he acknowledge it’s likely a factor for the players.
Bottom line, Alabama wants their revenge. LSU is a bad team this year and have had severe quarterback troubles resulting in an inconsistent offense. Alabama has all the weapons offensively needed to easily cover the 29.5 line.
Prediction: Alabama covers
