One of the biggest free agents from San Francisco’s roster, Grant “Moth” Espe has parted ways with the team. This confirms a rumor circling that he would be landing in LA alongside Jin-Seo “Shu” Kim from the Guangzhou Charge.

Moth was a part of the Shock since the inaugural season, joining in March alongside Minho “Architect” Park. Through the 2019 season, he became the team’s only main support player, leading them to the championship while playing every map along the way. His consistency and leadership made him a prized asset on the team and a top free agent this off-season.
Throughout the 2020 season, he retained that same consistency. But when several double-flex-support metas popped up, the team picked up Juseok “Twilight” Lee, who would split the playtime with Moth and Minki “Viol2t” Park. Over the course of his career, Moth has rarely subbed out: “before Overwatch League, I was never subbed out. [I] was always [the] only main support on every team I was on. I was always starting, every scrim, every map, every tournament.”
Perhaps the limited playtime towards the end of the season had him wishing for another team to guarantee the starting position every map. Maybe the Gladiators offered so high a salary that he could not refuse. Perhaps he just wanted the challenge of steering a different team towards a Grand Finals victory. Whatever the cause, this pickup makes the Gladiators look quite scary heading into the 2021 season. And this means the Shock will need to find a new main support player.
