Here are three teams on upset alert in week 7 of the 2020 college football season.
*Spreads are according to TeamRankings as of Tuesday night.*
Louisville Cardinals (-5)
Louisville Cardinals (1-4) vs. Florida State Seminoles (2-3)
When: Saturday, October 24 | Noon EST
Watch: YES Network
Although Florida State has the better record, Louisville is favored by the spread in this game. The Cardinals have lost multiple games by a single possession. So if a few plays went the Cardinals’ way, they could be 3-2 heading into their game against the Seminoles. Louisville is running into the Seminoles at a rough time as well. The Seminoles beat a top 5 North Carolina team, and that can help this team get back on track.
Florida State is coming off of a huge 31-28 win against the Tar Heels. They went into halftime up 31-7, and held onto the lead even while not scoring in the second half. The Seminoles scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the second quarter. They are still the underdog in this one, but a win will get them to .500 on the year.
6 Oklahoma State Cowboys (-3.5)
6 Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0) vs. 17 Iowa State Cyclones (3-1)
When: Saturday, October 24 | 3:30 PM EST
Watch: FOX
Although Oklahoma State is ranked 6 and at home, their is still a small spread of 3.5 in this game with the points going to Iowa State. The Cowboys are 3-0, with their most recent win being an expected one against Kansas by a score of 47-7. It was their largest margin of victory so far this year, as they won their first two games by a combined 23 points. This is also the Cowboys’ first game against a top 25 opponent, with Iowa State ranked 17 heading into their matchup.
After starting the season with a 31-14 loss to Louisiana, Iowa State has won three games in a row, including a 37-30 win over a ranked Oklahoma team. The Cyclones have scored over 30 points in each win, but they’ve also allowed at least 30 points in their first three games, but cut that in half to 15 against Texas Tech. A win here could boost Iowa State in the rankings and help them get a win closer to a BIG-12 Championship appearance.
Louisiana State Tigers (-6.5)
Louisiana State Tigers (1-2) vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2)
When: Saturday, October 24 | 7:00 PM EST
Watch: ESPN
The LSU Tigers are off to a 1-2 start the season after winning the National Championship. Their only win is against Vanderbilt, who is currently 0-3 on the season. The Commodores actually lost 41-7 against both LSU and South Carolina. The Tigers scored in every quarter in that game against Vanderbilt, and gave up just one touchdown. They gave up 44 and 45 points in their two losses, so that is something the Tigers will want to change moving forward.
After losing their first two games against ranked teams in Tennessee and Florida, the Gamecocks have won their last two games, including a 30-22 win against a ranked Auburn team. South Carolina went down 9-0 after the first quarter of that game, but then scored a combined 27 points in the second and third quarters. South Carolina will be over .500 heading into their game against yet another ranked team in Texas A&M with a win against LSU.
