The Vanderbilt versus Missouri football game scheduled to play in Columbia on Saturday October 17 has been postponed due to COVID-19. The tentative rescheduled date is for December 12.
The postponing makes it the first SEC game this season affected by COVID-19. Vanderbilt was down to 56 scholarship players in last week’s game versus South Carolina, a 41-7 loss. As of Monday the school announced that they would have to postpone due to lack of scholarship athletes.

SEC rules stipulate that a team must have 53 scholarship players available to play each week. It is the 28th FBS game this season to be postponed or cancelled.
“While we share in the disappointment that this Saturday’s game will be postponed, our program is deeply appreciative of the tireless efforts put forth by student-athletes, university officials, conference administrators and medical experts who have risen to the challenge of helping us navigate these unprecedented circumstances,” Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our student-athletes will remain a top priority as we continue this season, and we look forward to returning to competition.”
Missouri has been dealing with some COVID-19 related issues of their own. Entering Saturday’s game against LSU the Tigers were without two starting wide receivers, and three of their top five receivers overall. The team had seven total players miss the game due to COVID-19.
Vanderbilt’s next game is scheduled for October 31 against Ole Miss in Nashville. Missouri’s next game is at Florida on October 24.
