Even after a new patch that introduced a lot of small changes, the meta comps are still the same with the placing of each comp being shifted. What should players be prioritizing? Check out this weeks TFT 10.20 Meta Snapshot/Tier List.
For returning comps the descriptions will be shorter than comps that are new. For more detailed descriptions of returning comps, a link to the previous tier list will be linked for them below. Check back every Monday for new lists.
S-Tier: Comps that will almost always top four/very likely win
Spirit Aphelios
Last Week Position: A-Tier
The lone S-tier comp on the list this week is none other than Spirit Aphelios. The comp hasn’t changed but with the nerfs to everything else, this comp now sits alone at the top of the mountain. The Spirit trait was nerfed by 10% but that has not mattered in the slightest. Instead of Aphelios getting 190% bonus attack speed, he now only gets 170%. Not to mention that Aphelios himself actually got buffed at one and two-star which makes the early game a little easier.
It’s the same story. Build GA and Rageblade and watch every enemy unit die by turrets despite Aphelios being idle while he revives through GA. This comp has very sketchy counters at best and is far and away the strongest comp in the game. Just playing this comp greatly increases top four odds and if one can manage to hit Aphelios 3* with optimal items, it becomes nearly impossible to lose.
A-Tier: Comps that will likely top four/can win any lobby
Elderwood Brawler Ashe
Last Week Position: S-Tier
One of the two original queens has finally been dethroned but make no mistake, Ashe comps are the second-best in the game. An Ashe backed with a Sett makes for the most potent duo in TFT.
This comp hasn’t changed much but there are a couple of trees to build Ashe with. The first is the classic Brawler route in which a player hits a Chosen Brawler like Nunu or Maokai. In this version, players surround Ashe behind massive walls as they buy enough time for Ashe to ramp up and kill everything that Sett didn’t with his initial Showstopper.
The second version builds around the Elderwood trait. The Elderwood spat item is very powerful, especially on Warwick or Sett. In this version, players surround Ashe by massive Elderwood walls in which they buy enough time for Ashe to clean up. Both comps play similar but the champs are slightly different. In both comps, at least four brawlers are played but in the Elderwood version, the remaining team slots that were originally filled by other Brawlers are filled by Elderwood units like Lulu and Ezreal instead.
In both variants, Ashe and Sett are the priority and if players can hit upgrades on both with good items, they will top four every time. If they can do it while remaining healthy, they have a good shot at winning any lobby.
Dusk Riven
Last Week Position: S-Tier
The other original queen has also been dethroned but is still strong enough to compete with the best despite her nerfs. Riven was slightly hit in patch 10.20 but nothing major. The one significant change (besides the 3* hit but don’t get it twisted, if one still manages to hit Riven 3* they are still going to win even with the nerf) was to the Six Dusk bonus. The bonus now grants 15% less spell power at the Six Dusk level which does hurt the comp a little but can easily be worked around.
If a player still can hit a Dusk spat item or a Chosen Dusk Riven, then the 6 Dusk trait is still a fantastic power spike but in other circumstances, going for the four dusk synergy is going to be better and more efficient. The bright side is that with the four dusk synergy, players can now fit in more powerful tier five units like Kayn or even Sett.
The comp still plays the same. Build tank items on Riven and watch her still out damage everyone on the enemy team. Pair her up with a secondary carry like Kayn or Jhin and secure easy top fours. If players can find Riven 3* they will win any lobby guaranteed. But even if that cant happens, if players can surround Riven with some tier five units like Kayn and Lillia, then wins will come their way too.
Spirit Zed
Last Week Position: A-Tier
Still, nothing has changed about this comp but since the Spirit nerfs did nothing, this comp is still insane.
The comp still abuses the Spirit synergy to give Zed infinite attack speed. Keep Zed safe as he bounces in and out of aggro at the speed of light while he destroys any carry unit in sight. Zed’s only weakness is needing a secondary carry as he can’t do it all by himself late game. Thankfully for him, Kayn and Ahri are as good as they have ever been.
A frontline Ahri with GA will guarantee cast and will put every enemy unit at half health which allows Zed to clean up easily. Kayn not only is a Shade synergy, but he’s also the best stand-alone unit in the entire game. Add him onto the team for a triple carry threat that can destroy anyone in their way. As long as they themselves don’t get one shot.
Even though this comp doesn’t play a single tank unit, if a player hits a Chosen Zed with good items, they will top four for free. If a player can hit perfect Zed items (Rageblade,QSS,RFC) alongside upgrades onto Kayn and Ahri, then they will win lobbies for free too.
Vanguard Mystic Ahri
Last Week Position: S-Tier
The new queen of TFT may only be an A-Tier comp when built directly for her but that’s not an insult because she herself plays an important role in almost every single comp in the game. The reason is that she does massive damage for little investment. But what if players did invest items into Ahri? Well, that’s where this comp comes in.
Ahri is a cheaper and better version of Gangplank from Set 3. This means that she does the most damage in the game and does it to all enemies in a large radius. Jeweled Gauntlet is an insane item and an Ahri with one of those can one-shot literally any enemy unit in the game if it crits. Build two of them and practically guarantee it does.
The Vanguard and Mystic units are there to buy as much time for Ahri as possible. If a player can find Ahri upgrades with a tanky front and backline, then top fours are all but locked up. If they can find perfect Ahri items and hit the late game healthy, then players may find themselves winning more games than not.
Honorable Mentions: Comps that should be noted
Enlightened Talon
Last Week Position: HM
One of the only semi-reliable counters to the current meta game, Talon does a good job at neutralizing backline threats and can even trade well with Zed. Morgana is good at cutting healing with Morellos on her ability and does a surprising amount of damage. The issue with this comp is that unless Talon and/or Morgana are 3*, this comp lacks damage to win fights late game.
Reroll Mages
Last Week Position: N/A
Another decent comp in the metagame thanks to the buffs to the Mage trait, the reroll odds, and to Annie. This comp relies on Annie to solo tank entire enemy teams and she can do this quite well. In the back, players have powerful 3* carries like Twisted Fate and the best damage dealer in the game with Ahri to do the heavy lifting.
Sharpshooters
Last Week Position: HM
This comp actually received a significant nerf in the form of a bug fix on Jinx which makes her ability count as a spell now and not an auto-attack. What this means is that there is a delay from her casting her spell and then gaining mana when in the past she would just infinitely gain mana freely. Regardless, this comp is the king of CC and if enemy teams are not respecting it, this comp can wreck.
