The Toronto Blue Jays continue to add players by trading for infielder Jonathan Villar. Earlier today, the team traded for Arizona’s Robbie Ray. This time they add a bat from Miami.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the news via Twitter on Monday afternoon.
Marlins are buying and selling. Jonathan Villar is headed to Toronto.

2020 was Villar’s first year in Miami. Since starting his career in Houston in 2013, he has made stops in Milwaukee and Baltimore as well. His 2019 year in Baltimore saw him play in all 162 games, collecting a huge 714 plate appearances.
Villar is hitting .272 in 2020 with two home runs and nine RBI. He leads the National League in stolen bases at nine, but has also been caught stealing a league-high five times. It seems as if Toronto likes what they see in Villar and are trying to improve at the plate and on the basepaths.
The Marlins are reportedly receiving Isan Diaz, who opted out at the beginning of the season.
