In a press release, Riot Games announced that a Closed Beta was coming for their first FPS title, VALORANT on April 7. This Beta will be only available for players in Europe, Canada, Russia, Turkey and the United State with, “the possibility of a later rollout to more regions, pending the developments with the current COVID-19 pandemic.” In order to get the game, players will have to get it as a part of a drop from one of their favorite streamers only on Twitch. Here are the steps to make sure that an account is connected and available to receive the drop.
Register for a Riot account (create a Riot account here)
Link your Riot account to a Twitch account (create a Twitch account here)
When closed beta activates in your region (EU and NA for now), watch specific VALORANT streams highlighted on Twitch for the opportunity to be entitled for Closed Beta access
“For additional details about the VALORANT Closed Beta, including Twitch entitlement guidelines, visit www.PlayVALORANT.com.”
It is not yet known who the streamers will be or what time they will be starting the drops. Be on the lookout April 7 on Twitch to see who is streaming it and jump into their stream to try for the drops. Riot has done this before for Legends of Runeterra.
With this announcement was also a statement about how COVID-19 has interfered with their initial rollout plans and an FAQ to some important questions.
“Our plan was to bring the VALORANT Closed Beta to as many players around the world as
quickly as possible, but the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those plans, compromising a wider global rollout. For now, we have to focus on the regions where we feel most ready, with more regions following in the months to come.”- Anna donlon, executive producer of valorant
There are hopes that it will go out to everyone eventually as Anna also stated, “we’ll ramp up our player count as much as we can to test our infrastructure, but we won’t be letting everyone playtest VALORANT until we’re absolutely sure we can handle it in this newly uncertain environment.” It seems as though the plan will be to push out more drops and keys to people as the Beta evolves. What was not mentioned was an official release date which means this beta could go on for a while.
FAQ for VALORANT
Here are some of the questions that they felt would be asked and that they could currently answer.
Does my closed beta progress carry over to launch?
● “No. VALORANT’s current gameplay state may very well change come launch, and it’s better that everyone’s progress begins at the same starting line.”
How long will this Closed Beta last?
● “We’re still aiming for our launch date of Summer 2020 (a little unspecific, we know), and want to keep closed beta as short as we can while getting additional regions online. That said, if we hear a lot of unexpected feedback from players during this period, we’ll reevaluate.”
What happens to the VALORANT Points I purchase during the Closed Beta?
● “At full launch, we will give you all of your VALORANT Points back, with an additional 20% bonus as a thanks for engaging with our work-in-progress skins and store. Here’s an example: if you buy 10000 VALORANT Points during the closed beta, you will have 12000 VALORANT Points at launch (this bonus applies even to the bundled bonus for purchasing larger amounts). The Store and pricing details are still very much a work-in-progress and don’t reflect what will be available at launch.”
Why is the Closed Beta not coming to my region?
● “The plan is to roll out to more regions, if possible, pending the volatile logistics of launching a beta effectively during a global pandemic. If you’re playing from either Canada, United States, Russia, Turkey, or Europe, you have a chance to get in the Closed Beta. Getting the Closed Beta in the hands of players outside of those regions is not possible at this time, unfortunately. Our official VALORANT channels will update you if the situation changes. Still, we want to hear from everyone who watches VALORANT gameplay online.”
