The Dallas Cowboys have found their new coach just one day after firing Jason Garrett.
Reports indicate that they will tap former Packers coach Mike McCarthy for the head coaching position. The NFL’s Ian Rapoport broke the news via Twitter on Monday morning.

McCarthy was 125-77 during his 12-year tenure in Green Bay. In 2011, he led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory over his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers. Under McCarthy, the Pack made four NFC Championship games and nine total playoff appearances.
After a poor showing in 2018, Green Bay’s front office had grown tired of a stagnating offense and fired McCarthy. The firing came after a loss to a cellar-dwelling Arizona Cardinals team. This made him the first Super Bowl-winning coach in NFL history to be fired midseason.
The Cowboys fired head coach Jason Garrett following a disappointing 2019 campaign. Dallas, who had Super Bowl-level aspirations, finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs. Garrett, who was in his tenth year as head coach, only made the playoffs three times, and never took the Cowboys to an NFC Championship game.
Garrett was announced as being fired on Sunday, January 5. They wasted no time in filling his seat, breaking the news of McCarthy’s hiring less than 24 hours later. It is, for now, unclear when he will be officially announced.
