Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-2)
Brian Kelly led Notre Dame to another 10-win season. The Fighting Irish were able to beat six bowl-eligible teams this season. Their only two losses of the season came to Georgia and Michigan, who are both in decent bowl games this season.
Notre Dame scores 37.1 points per game, which ranks 13th in the country. They rush for 176.8 yards per game (ranked 46th) and pass for 252.6 yards per game (ranked 49th).
Ian Book was the leader of the offense for Notre Dame this season. The junior quarterback has thrown for 2,787 yards, 33 touchdowns and six interceptions on 59.3 percent completion. Five receivers have over 200 receiving yards on the season. Chase Claypool leads the team with 59 receptions, 891 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Tony Jones Jr. leads the team with 722 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Book has been the team’s second-leading rusher with 516 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The Fighting Irish allow 18.7 points per game, which puts them at 14th in the country. They give up 162.1 rushing yards per game (ranked 71st) and 163.7 passing yards per game (ranked third). Edge rushers Khalid Kareem and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah each have 5.5 sacks this season.
Iowa State Cyclones (7-5)
Matt Campbell has stabilized the Iowa State program and made another bowl game. The Cyclones beat just one bowl-eligible team, which was Texas. They lost five games, all of which were to teams that were at least .500.
Iowa State scores 34.1 points per game, which ranks 26th in the country. They rush for 140.3 yards per game (ranked 95th) and pass for 318.3 yards per game (ranked ninth).
Brock Purdy has been the star of the Cyclones this season. The sophomore has 3,760 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 66.3 percent completion. Six wide receivers have over 200 receiving yards this season for the Cyclones. Deshaunte Jones led the team with 72 receptions for 832 yards and two touchdowns.
Three players have over 200 rushing yards this season. Breece Hall leads all rushers with 842 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
The Cyclones allow 25.3 points per game, which is 52nd in the country. Iowa State gives up 133.8 yards on the ground (ranked 34th) and 228.3 yards through the air per game (ranked 71st). Defensive backs Greg Elsworth and Anthony Johnson both have 10 passes defended on the season.
Prediction
Notre Dame has played more quality competition and has the better offense and defense. Ian Book will have a big day to lead the Fighting Irish to victory.
