The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. The bowl season schedule allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2019 New Mexico Bowl.
Central Michigan Chippewas Prospects
Jonathan Ward, RB
Ward had a unique college career at Central Michigan. The running back had 200 rushing yards as a freshman, then became a playmaker with 1,017 yards rushing as a sophomore. Things went south when he was a junior and he finished with 212 rushing yards. He reemerged with 1,082 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. He has done enough to get noticed by NFL scouts.
He has a solid build for an NFL running back, as he stands 6-foot and 202 pounds. There is a chance he can be drafted in the late rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth round-undrafted free agent
Steve Eipper, OG/C
Eipper redshirted his first year in Mount Pleasant. He then slowly became involved over the next few years. As a redshirt freshman, he played in four games and made one start. He has since been a regular on the offensive line.
At 6-foot-4 and 288 pounds, Eipper has decent size for a guard at the NFL level. He likely won’t be drafted, but Eipper might get a shot to make an NFL roster.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted free agent
Quinten Dormady, QB
He was a highly-rated quarterback coming out of high school, but was unable to live up to the hype at the college level. Dormady went to Tennessee and got some playing time in three seasons. He transferred to Houston and redshirted for a season before ending up at Central Michigan. This season, he threw for 2,148 yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions on 66.8 percent completion.
Dormady is a taller quarterback at 6-foot-5 and 219 pounds. He had potential in the past and some NFL teams may want to give him a chance in training camp.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted free agent
Other Notable Draft-eligible Players: LB Sean Adesanya, OT Clay Walderzack
San Diego State Aztecs Prospects
Daishawn Dixon, OG/C
Over his time at San Diego State, Dixon has helped block for some very successful running backs, but hasn’t been able to prove himself as much as a pass blocker. Their offense hasn’t been as productive as in past years, but that isn’t the fault of Dixon who has blocked well.
He has great size for a guard at 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds. Dixon may be the player most likely to be on an NFL roster at this point next season.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth round-undrafted free agent
Juwan Washington, RB
Washington has followed up Donnel Pumphrey and Rashaad Penny as the next San Diego State running back. He had a great junior season with 999 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, but this year has seen a dip in production from the tailback. In 2019, Washington has rushed for just 500 yards and two touchdowns.
At 5-foot-7 and 190 pounds, Washington is undersized for the NFL. He didn’t have too many receptions in San Diego State’s offense, but has that capability, which could help his chances of making a roster.
Projected Draft Range: Seventh round-undrafted free agent
Other Notable Draft Eligible Prospects: TE Parker Houston, LB Kyahva Tezino, CB Luq Barcoo, CB Ron Smith
