Another New Orleans Saints defensive lineman may be done for the season. Sheldon Rankins exited Sunday’s game early with an ankle injury. It apparently is bad enough that his season is heavily in question.
This news comes only days after defensive end Marcus Davenport was reported to have a Lisfranc injury. Davenport will have surgery on his foot, ending his 2019 campaign.
The NFL’s Ian Rapoport announced the severity of Rankins’ injury via Twitter on Wednesday morning.
Another hit to the #Saints defensive front: DT Sheldon Rankins, who left Sunday early, has an ankle injury deemed significant, sources say. At this point, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to return this season. Combined with Marcus Davenport’s Lisfranc injury, rough few days.

Rankins had two sacks and ten tackles in the 10 games he played in 2019. He missed the first three weeks of the season, due to an achilles tear he suffered in the playoffs last season. This injury may mark the second year in a row his season ends early.
If his ankle appears to defy expectations and get healthy quickly, New Orleans will likely trot him out for the playoffs. The Saints are 10-3 and have already clinched the NFC South.
The Indianapolis Colts will visit the Saints in the Super Dome on Monday Night Football, December 16.
