D’Eriq King made news this week by announcing his decision to redshirt for the rest of the season. Initially, it was reported that King would transfer for his final year of eligibility, but King has now said he is returning to the Cougars. King still has time to change his mind and he can transfer once the season is over. If he does, where could he go? Here are D’Eriq King possible transfer destinations.

1. Florida State Seminoles

King’s former offensive coordinator, Kendal Briles, is now with Florida State. While he only spent one year at Houston, with Briles in charge of the offense, King passed for 2,986 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions on 63.5 percent completion. He also rushed for 674 yards and 14 touchdowns in leading the Cougars to an 8-5 record.

Florida State also has missed out on quarterback recruits in the last couple of classes. Alex Hornibrook transferred in and looked good in his only action of the season this past week against Louisville. He is a senior though and will be gone next year. James Blackman is only a junior and started the first three games of the season, but struggled. King could step in and make a huge impact right away, while giving the Seminoles more time to recruit the quarterback of the future.

Briles is now at Arkansas, so if King wants to link up with him, he will have to become a Razorback.

2. Oklahoma Sooners

Every year, it seems Oklahoma starts a transfer quarterback and they end up winning the Heisman. Jalen Hurts is having a good start to his season this year, and could do the same. King fits the mold of an athletic quarterback, which Lincoln Reilly has worked with and been successful with. If King wants to compete for a National Championship, he could go to Oklahoma.

Oklahoma does have highly-touted recruit Spencer Rattler on their roster, but having talented players on their roster hasn’t stopped them from getting transfer quarterbacks before. For King, he wants to improve his accuracy and become a legit NFL quarterback prospect. If he is serious about this, there is no better place to go than Oklahoma.

3. Missouri Tigers

The Tigers dipped into the transfer trend this offseason by getting Kelly Bryant of Clemson to go to Missouri. Bryant replaced Drew Lock and the Tigers might need someone else now to replace Bryant. Backing Bryant up this season is Taylor Powell, who was a three-star recruit with not much experience.

While this isn’t a premier program like the first two on this list, the Tigers need a quarterback moving forward. This would also give King a chance to play in the SEC, which would give him a lot of quality teams to test himself against. The playbook has already been adapted for a dual-threat quarterback in Bryant, so King could fit in with the offense as well.

4. Utah Utes

Utah has some good playmakers right now, but they are graduating. Tyler Huntley has led the offense for the last few seasons and will be graduating, so the Utes could use a quarterback. They have three-star quarterback Jason Shelley who could step in, but King would likely inject more life into their offense.

Huntley can run and throw the ball in a similar manner to King. King though is more athletic and could do more damage with his legs in this offense. With Utah losing a lot of offensive talent, they could reach out to King to see if he wants to play in the Pac-12.

Utah is likely not a destination for King anymore, as Jake Bentley grad transferred in from South Carolina. LSU might vie for his services though, as they’ll need to replace Joe Burrow.

5. Iowa Hawkeyes

This would be the oddest fit of them all, but King could help out Iowa, who loses quarterback Nate Stanley to graduation. They have Spencer Petras on the roster, but he was just a three-star recruit. King could give some life to the Iowa offense next season.

He doesn’t really fit the offense for Iowa, but King has said he wants to become a better pocket passer. Iowa’s offense could afford him the opportunity to try it. If it doesn’t work out, the Hawkeyes could move him back to wide receiver to see if they could use his elusiveness in the open field.
