Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss the remainder of the 2019 season after an MRI revealed he needs elbow surgery.
Roethlisberger left during the first half of Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, not to return. 2018 third-round pick Mason Rudolph came into the game to run the offense in “Big Ben’s” absence. He was 12 for 19 with two touchdowns and one interception. The Steelers lost the game 28-26 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
A Monday MRI delivered the bad news. According to Adam Schefter, he will be placed on IR and will not be activated for the rest of the season.

The 37-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion had not missed a game due to injury since 2016. This comes the same day as another sturdy Super Bowl-winning QB, Drew Brees, left his game due to an injury.
The Steelers traded backup quarterback Josh Dobbs to Jacksonville following Nick Foles’ clavicle injury. Pittsburgh is expected to bring up Delvin Hodges to serve as Rudolph’s back-up (again, according to Adam Schefter).
Having been blown out by the rival New England Patriots in Week 1, the Steelers are now 0-2, but have not yet played any games inside the AFC North. As of Monday afternoon, they are currently tied for 4th in the division with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens are 2-0 and the Browns have yet to play their Monday Night Football matchup against the New York Jets.
Pittsburgh’s next game comes on Sunday against the 49ers, who are fresh off a 41-17 drubbing of the Bengals.
