Fantasy football season is here. Every year millions of people play fantasy and with that comes the prep work to make sure that every draft is one that can produce a champion. This article will go through what happened in a real draft for a league of 10 teams and analyze the results. The league has some history and players of all levels involved, making it pretty relatable to most fantasy drafts. This is a standard scoring league. (Note: This draft took place before Andrew Luck’s retirement)

Team 1

Team number one had the first pick, pick number 20, 21, etc. The teams following this one will follow the draft order.

Roster: Saquon Barkley (RB), Odell Beckham (WR), Tyreek Hill (WR), Mark Ingram (RB), Damien Williams (RB), A.J. Green (WR), Derrius Guice (RB), Cam Newton (QB), D.J. Moore (WR), Matt Breida (RB), Carlos Hyde (RB), Devin Funchess (WR), Mark Andrews (TE), Chargers D, Stephen G. (K), Kyler Murray (QB)

This team has enough depth and high-point getters to make the playoffs. Barkley, Beckham and Hill are all players who could/should finish in the top five at their positions. Nabbing Newton gives this team a good quarterback, as Newton had a great fantasy season last year before injuring his shoulder. With a stable of running backs to fill in the RB2 and flex spots, there is a lot to like about this team.

Team 2

Roster: Alvin Kamara (RB), Derrick Henry (RB), Amari Cooper (WR), Josh Jacobs (RB), Robert Woods (WR), Lamar Miller (RB), Allen Robinson (WR), Sammy Watkins (WR), Vance McDonald (TE), Jamison Crowder (WR), Drew Brees (QB), Gio Bernard (RB), Golden Tate (WR), Vikings D, Jake Elliott (K), Mitch Trubisky (QB)

The Lamar Miller pick makes it tougher for this team, but this team has good starting running backs. Depth will be a question at the position. The starting receivers aren’t terrible, but Woods will need to have another career-year. Brees should have another good season. If the depth of this team doesn’t leave them thin, it could be a .500 team.

Team 3

Roster: Christian McCaffrey (RB), Travis Kelce (TE), Patrick Mahomes (QB), Brandin Cooks (WR), Mike Williams (WR), Tarik Cohen (RB), Robby Anderson (WR), Jordan Howard (RB), Corey Davis (WR), Darrell Henderson (RB), Sterling Shepard (WR), Delaine Walker (TE), Kareem Hunt (RB), Harrison Butker (K), Lamar Jackson (QB), Saints D

The stars on this team will have to carry it. McCaffrey, Kelce and Mahomes should be able to win this team some games. Where this team could face problems is their wide receivers and RB2. In a standard league, Tarik Cohen is not projected to be a running back that is started every game. If injuries start happening, this team will have to find replacements on the waiver wire. This team can make the playoffs, but it is best if they don’t panic and trade some of their assets, but rather scour the waiver wire for players to contribute at running back and wide receiver.

Team 4

Roster: Todd Gurley (RB), Dalvin Cook (RB), Mike Evans (WR), Antonio Brown (WR), Zach Ertz (TE), Tyler Boyd (WR), Matt Ryan (QB), Marvin Jones (WR), Latavius Murray (RB), Royce Freeman (RB), Larry Fitzgerald (WR), Mo Sanu (WR), Bears D, Will Lutz (K), Dak Prescott (QB), Kyle Rudolph (TE)

While this team has some good players, the main concern has to be the injury-prone running backs. Gurley has arthritis in his knee and Cook has never proven to stay healthy. If they can stay healthy it would be a huge asset to this team, as it lacks solid running back depth. Brown will need to stay on the field as well, but this team can win games if they are healthy. The problem is, no fantasy team stays healthy.

Team 5

Roster: James Conner (RB), Joe Mixon (RB), Adam Thielen (WR), Sony Michel (RB), Julian Edelman (WR), Alshon Jeffery (WR), Hunter Henry (TE), James White (RB), Christian Kirk (WR), Dion Lewis (RB), Adrian Peterson (RB), Jaylen Samuels (RB), Donte Moncrief (WR), Ben Roethlisberger (QB), Houston D, Michael Badgley (K)

This is another solid team. Getting Roethlisberger so late is a steal, especially after he led the league in passing yards last season. With Conner and Mixon, team 5 has two good starting running backs. Edelman, Thielen and Jeffery should give them enough receivers to fill out the rest of the starting lineup. This team will be tough to beat, especially if Henry has a solid season at tight end.

Team 6

Roster: Le’Veon Bell (RB), JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR), Aaron Jones (RB), George Kittle (TE), Chris Godwin (WR), Kenny Golladay (WR), Melvin Gordon (RB), Dante Pettis (WR), Darwin Thompson (RB), Devin Singletary (RB), Geronimo Allison (WR), TJ Hockenson (TE), Russell Wilson (QB), Jameis Winston(QB), Eagles D, Mason Crosby (K)

Team 6’s owner is not afraid to take risks. Here is a list of all the risks this team took: Bell is back after sitting out last year, Smith-Schuster will now draw all the attention of defenses, the Packers don’t give Jones the ball nearly enough, Gordon is still holding out. If some of these risks work out, this team can be one of the best in the league. If Gordon sits out, this team could especially struggle. With most teams it is too early to tell exactly how they’ll do, but this team fits that even more with all the gambles the owner took.

Team 7

Roster: Ezekiel Elliott (RB), Michael Thomas (WR), Keenan Allen (WR), Marlon Mack (RB), Tyler Lockett (WR), Kenyan Drake (RB), Evan Engram (TE), Aaron Rodgers (QB), LeSean McCoy (RB), DeSean Jackson (WR), Peyton Barber (RB), Carson Wentz (QB), Jaguars D, Greg Zuerlein (K), Courtland Sutton (WR), Marquez Valdez-Scantling (WR)

This team has a good combo at wide receiver in Thomas and Allen. With Elliot sitting out, there will be some questions, but he will likely play. Mack’s value likely drops significantly now that teams can stack the box after Andrew Luck’s retirement. Running back depth could be an issue because of this. Rodgers can carry the team some weeks, but Elliot, Thomas and Allen will have to do most of the heavy lifting.

Team 8

Roster: DeAndre Hopkins (WR), Davante Adams (WR), Kerryon Johnson (RB), Chris Carson (RB), Tevin Coleman (RB), OJ Howard (TE), David Montgomery (RB), Cooper Kupp (WR), Curtis Samuel (WR), Rashaad Penny (RB), Dede Westbrook (WR), Kalen Ballage (RB), Andrew Luck (QB), Justin Tucker (K), Josh Allen (QB), Cowboys Defense

Team 8 has a good combo of wide receivers in Hopkins and Adams, which can put up a lot of points. The weakness is obviously running back. Johnson and Carson will need to be top 20 running backs for this team to really compete. Luck retiring hurts this team, but other good quarterbacks will likely be on the waiver wire.

Team 9

Roster: Julio Jones (WR), David Johnson (RB), Devonta Freeman (RB), Stefon Diggs (WR), Deshaun Watson (QB), Will Fuller (WR), Austin Ekeler (RB), Jarvis Landry (WR), Duke Johnson (RB), David Njoku (TE), Nyheim Hines (RB), DK Metcalf (WR), Rams D, Michael Gallup (WR), Kaimi Fairbairn (K), Tony Pollard (RB)

With all the big news around the league over the last week, this team has actually benefitted. Melvin Gordon is holding out, so they grabbed Ekeler. Duke Johnson is now thought to be the starter for the Texans. Hines will likely be used in the passing game more now that the Colts will likely be trailing in a lot more games. Pollard will get carries if Elliot doesn’t end his holdout. With that, this team can be competitive, but if holdouts are ended or players are signed, depth could be an issue.

Team 10

Roster: Nick Chubb (RB), Leonard Fournette (RB), T.Y. Hilton (WR), Philip Lindsay (RB), Calvin Ridley (WR), Jared Cook (TE), Josh Gordon (WR), Miles Sanders (RB), Emmanuel Sanders (WR), Eric Ebron (TE), Baker Mayfield (QB), James Washington (WR), Jared Goff (QB), Marquise Goodwin (WR), Ravens D, Robbie Gould (K)

Luck’s injury absolutely destroyed this team’s expectations. Hilton shouldn’t be trusted as a WR1 anymore, which leaves this team really weak overall at the receiver position. The team will be fine at tight end with Cook, but Ebron’s value is totally up in the air at this point. Chubb and Fournette will have to play out of their minds and rank in the top 10 for running backs each for this team to have a shot to succeed.
