The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 20 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. Here are the Madden 20 questionable ratings: Kansas City Chiefs.
Chris Jones- 89
Jones was one of the best players in the NFL last season with 15.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss. His play helped lead the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, Madden didn’t accurately recognize how good of a season he had, as they rated him at an 89.
Calais Campbell of the Jacksonville Jaguars is similar to Jones, but only had 10.5 sacks last season. Campbell was given a rating of 92, while Jones was rated three points lower. Jones should be boosted a couple of points because of his good play in 2018.
Adjusted Rating- 93
Tyrann Mathieu- 87
Mathieu lined up all over the field for the Texans last season and was signed by the Chiefs this offseason. He’ll likely do more of the same for the Chiefs, which is good considering he had 89 total tackles, three sacks, eight passes defended and two interceptions. Madden deemed his play good enough for an 87 rating.
Kevin Byard, of the Tennessee Titans, had a very similar season to Mathieu. He finished the year with 90 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions. Both players should be rated similarly, but Madden gave Byard an 89 rating.
Adjusted Rating- 89
Frank Clark- 83
The Chiefs acquired Clark this offseason from the Seattle Seahawks. With the Seahawks in 2018, Clark had 13 sacks. He will now replace Dee Ford on the defensive line and should have another opportunity for a good season. Madden though, rated him an 83 for this season.
Brandon Graham had four sacks last year for the Philadelphia Eagles. Although he didn’t produce a lot, Madden still elected to give him a rating of 89. Clark should at least match what Graham is rated given his great pass rushing season in 2018.
Adjusted Rating- 89
Damien Williams- 80
Williams took over as the lead back late in the season after the Chiefs parted ways with Kareem Hunt. He ran with his opportunity, averaging 5.1 yards per carry and also had 160 receiving yards. While he didn’t get the most touches, he made the most of them, but Madden gave him a rating of 80.
Other running backs were less productive on a per-carry basis than Williams. LeSean McCoy had a bad year by his standards and averaged just 3.2 yards per carry for a total of 514 rushing yards in 14 games. He was rated two points higher than Williams. McCoy is rated at an 82 and has more volume, but Williams is more efficient with his touches, so they should be rated similarly.
Adjusted Rating- 82
