Two more Call of Duty franchises that have been announced, one with OpTic Gaming in Los Angeles and one in Minnesota who will be owned by WISE Ventures who also own the Minnesota Vikings. This latest announcement by Activision brings the total known teams up to seven.
The currently known cities are Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Paris, Toronto, Los Angeles and Minnesota. The Los Angeles team will be owned by OpTic but also by Immortals who recently acquired the longtime esports franchise. Immortals also own the Los Angeles Valiant which is why the Call of Duty team will be located similarly. If the Call of Duty League follows in the Overwatch League footsteps then it is likely the teams will get completely original names as well.
As for the Minnesota franchise, this will be the areas first esports franchise. The midwestern United States was lacking any representation and while Minnesota is further north, many people in the area will likely be excited to have a team. With the team’s connection to the Vikings, look for them to potentially have a team color scheme based around purple.
The league has yet to announce their official start date but, the signs are pointing to 2020 as they seem to be following a similar path as the also Activision owned, Overwatch League.
