Week one of the 2019 LCS Summer Split was full of excitement, but now it’s time to take a look at what’s ahead. Teams like Cloud9, Golden Guardians and OpTic Gaming opened the split with two wins each, whereas FlyQuest, Clutch Gaming and 100 Thieves dropped their first two matches. Somewhere in the middle lies Team Liquid at 1-1. Obviously they were looking to start off the split with an undefeated weekend, but they’ll have a chance to bounce back in week two.
Week 2 Match-Ups
Team Liquid will have an easier load this coming weekend, as they face 100 Thieves and Counter Logic Gaming. Both teams have been mediocre this season, meaning TL should have few things to worry about.
Day one will consist of Team Liquid’s match-up with 100 Thieves, one of the newest teams in the LCS. During the Spring Split, 100 Thieves finished at the bottom of the LCS with a record of 4-14. On the flip side, Team Liquid finished at the top of the LCS with a record of 14-4. Based on these statistics, it would be safe to say that these two teams are the opposite of each other. One team is polished and full of experience, whereas the other stumbles when it gets rolling.
On day two, Team Liquid will take on Counter Logic Gaming. CLG is another team sitting in the middle of the pack with Team Liquid, but will likely struggle against such a talented team. More recently, CLG finished tied for 7th during the Spring Split. Their record of 7-11 was simply not enough to get them into the Spring Playoffs, considering their weak performances against top opponents. Team Liquid on the other hand shows up when needed, meaning they should fare well against CLG. There should even be some competitive fire on the side of Team Liquid, because Peter ‘Doublelift’ Peng spent the majority of his pro career on their opponent’s side.
Predictions
After struggling against Echo Fox during week one, Team Liquid should think more carefully when game planning for week two. Certainly their match-ups are easier on paper, but they’ll need to be fundamentally sound on all levels to ensure an undefeated weekend.
100 Thieves have had a rough time since their debut on the LCS stage, however their roster changes have made them slightly more consistent. This should mean that their match against Team Liquid will be competitive, but their lack of talent and experience will likely show.
The same can be said about TL’s match against CLG; there isn’t enough skill to stop them. Both of Team Liquid’s opponents this week lack experience and composure, meaning they should come away with two wins.
