Pitcher Yu Darvish and the Padres have agreed on a long, expensive contract extension. Darvish will sign a six-year, $108 million contract extension with the Padres. The deal begins this next season, and will run through the 2028 season.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Darvish began his career overseas, in his home country of Japan. He became a prolific pitcher in the NPB, winning Pacific League MVP twice. He joined the MLB in 2012, when he signed with the Texas Rangers, then going to the Los Angeles Dodgers, with whom he played during the 2017 World Series.
After one year in L.A., and a lost championship among the Astros cheating scandal, he joined the Chicago Cubs from 2018-2020. He was traded to the Padres in 2021, playing there ever since. He will be over 40 when this contract ends.
