Smash Ultimate Summit 3 was held this weekend, with the 16 best Smash Bros Ultimate players in the world. The tournament was originally supposed to be held on June 11-14, 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19. Since then, the meta of Smash Ultimate has changed drastically due to the wi-fi era. With a prize pool of over $156,00 USD, the tournament has reignited the offline era of Smash Ultimate. Smash Ultimate Summit 3 garnered the biggest prize pool in competitive smash history.
Event Overview
The event started off on Thursday with a USA vs. World Crew Battle which team world won. Summit has been called by many players, not just a tournament but, an experience, due to its side events and casual vibe. The players also contributed in fun activists such as Wifi warriors where the input lag is increased over the length of a match and let’s not forget Dabuz Building a doghouse. The Gauntlet
Day three is when the torrent truly took shape however with all players having to withstand the gauntlet stage of the tournament that shaped the final bracket. With the final seed decided, each player had their chance to win it all on the final day. Each set was a $6,000+ money match, there was a lot on the line for these players with only one player taking it all.
Bracket
The final day started off with a huge victory for Tweek over MkLeo, sending him to losers with a 3-0. Sparg0, one of the younger players, made a huge run as well, going all the way to winner’s finals but, lost to Tweek’s Diddy Kong in a 3-1 set. Sparg0 then had to face MkLeo in losers finals. The fight came down to the wire but MkLeo was able to reverse 3-0 Sparg0 in a 3-2 losers finals set. Sparg0 definitely showed the world that he is a top competition and a contender for the best in the world.
Almost reminiscent of Mang0’s Smash Summit 11, MkLeo made it from all the way from losers’ side to grand finals facing off against Tweek. However, in a stunning performance, Tweek was able to dominate MkLeo winning grand finals 3-0. Tweek showed that he has conquered his demons and can now challenge MkLeo for the number one spot in the world.

Future of Competitive Smash Ultimate
While Smash Ultimates’s competitive scene has been rocky as of late. Beyond The Summit has always been able to revitalize the smash scene for both Ultaitme and Melee. Ultimate has many events coming up in the near future, such as Temple: Hermes Edition on September 4-5, Riptide in Ohio on September 10-12 and Low Tide City 2021 in Texas on October 1-4.
Beyond the Summit has always been a beckon in the smash community. With Tweek’s victory over MkLeo, it was definitely the spark that the competitive scene needed in the COVID times.
