The Kansas City Chiefs traded for former Giants standout receiver Kadarius Toney Thursday afternoon. How will Kadarius Toney fit in with the Chiefs’ offense?
Toney was a promising rookie receiver for the New York Giants last year but has struggled with injuries since last year. Toney’s lingering health issues prompted the 6-1 Giants to trade the promising youngster.
Toney is expected to make his Chiefs debut against the Titans on November 6th, but how will he be used?
The new Chief impressed many in his short rookie campaign with his crisp route running and with his explosiveness with the football. In his rookie season, he only played in 10 games and accumulated 420 receiving yards, as well as seeing some designed runs.
I would expect Toney to compete with Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore. These are both speedy players with the ability to break out at any moment. Toney will most likely take the fourth receiver spot on the depth chart. This would eliminate the spot plays we see from the rookie Skyy Moore.
As Toney becomes healthier his role within the offense may rise as the result. Furthermore, the speedy player has a lot of potential to play with Patrick Mahomes in this offense.
But for now, Chiefs fans will have to wait to see the newly acquired receiver in this explosive offense. Patrick Mahomes will also be glad to have a new weapon.
