Kenny Pickett could have had a better statistical year as a rookie. He has a lot of potential to grow as a young starting quarterback. Pickett needs to make better decisions and adjust more to the NFL. This article will first examine how Pickett played in year one and then predict how his season may turn out in year two.
Kenny Pickett in Year One
Pickett’s first game in a Steelers uniform was the August 16 preseason game against the Seahawks. The Steelers won that game because of a game-winning touchdown drive by Kenny Pickett. Guess who he threw the game-winning touchdown pass to? None other than the former Georgia star George Pickens. He was Pickett’s favorite target during the regular season. However, that was not the only game Pickett led a comeback in. Pickett had four game-winning drives against the Saints, Colts, Raiders and Ravens during the regular season.
However, Pickett’s stats do not look pretty. He threw for over 2,000 yards, nine interceptions, and seven touchdowns. Three interceptions came in Pickett’s regular season debut against the Jets. Furthermore, most of his interceptions were long throws. Pickett is excellent when it comes to short to intermediate passes. The Steelers love to roll him out to the right or the left, which leaves Pickett an opportunity to run with the ball if no one is open. He had 237 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, as he is decently mobile.
Predictions for Year Two
Pickett should have a much better second season. He will have time to grow and get better during the offseason, and he will also have the experience he did not have during his rookie season. Here are some predictions for Kenny Pickett’s second season in the NFL.
The most sure-fire prediction is that Pickett will get George Pickens over 1,000 receiving yards this coming year. The second prediction is bold, but Pickett will lead the Steelers to the playoffs this coming year. He will have Diontae Johnson and George Pickens back. Furthermore, Najee Harris was a beast last year with over 1,000 rushing yards. The defense was good down the stretch at the end of the season; as long as they put the right pieces to the puzzle together, they should be good again this year.
Pickett did not have a good touchdown to interception ratio last season. However, it should be much in 2023. It is predicted that Pickett will have 20 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Pickett is still young and will make some bad decisions.
