The Kansas City Chiefs were slated to play a tough Buccaneers defense in Tampa Bay on Sunday Night Football. The Chiefs were able to make the Bucs defense look silly as they cruised to a 41-31 victory.
Patrick Mahomes’ MVP chase
Out of all of the young star quarterbacks in the NFL Patrick Mahomes is the only one with an MVP and a Super Bowl Ring. Mahomes looked like his regular MVP-caliber self on Sunday night. The fourth-year starter threw for 249 yards while tossing three touchdowns.
The most impressive thing about Mahomes that we got to see Sunday night is how easy he makes the game look. Prior to this game, the Buccaneers’ defense was widely regarded as the best in the NFL. But Mahomes made them look like a practice squad defense.
The former MVP found multiple targets effortlessly with many passes leaving people confused on how he does it. There were multiple times where Mahomes was nearly sacked but instead, he threw perfect lob passes to his targets.
With multiple early season MVP front runners (Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts) having more trouble than usual in week 4, Mahomes has quickly put himself back in the conversation for MVP.
Rest of the Offense
Besides Mahomes’ great performance many others stepped up as well. Rookie running back Isiah Pacheco saw a large load increase this week.
Pacheco only saw 15 carries in the first three weeks of the season. On Sunday night Pacheco had a great performance as it seemed that he and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were competing with one another. Pacheco carried the ball 11 times and rushed for 63 yards.
All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce had another huge primetime performance. Kelce was the recipient of a touchdown pass within the first 15 seconds of the game. The tight end found the ball early and often in this game as it felt like he owned the first two Chiefs possessions.
The Chiefs are off to a great start this season. After the Chiefs’ Sunday Night Football victory, they currently stand at 3-1 and are in sole possession of the AFC West lead. Next week they take on the 1-3 Las Vegas Raiders in Arrowhead Stadium.
