The Eagles will be looking to build more momentum as they will be taking on the Vikings in Philadelphia on Monday night. As of this writing, the Eagles are two-point favorites in this game. This article will preview the Philadelphia Eagles Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
About the opponent
The Vikings are coming off an impressive 23-7 win over the Green Bay Packers. Kirk Cousins was sharp during this game. He had 277 yards and two touchdowns. The Viking offense really burned the Packers’ defense all day on Sunday. Dalvin Cook who is arguably one the best running backs in the NFL had a heck of a day with 90 total rushing yards. The threat of having Cook in the backfield opens their offense up a lot. The Vikings used a lot of play-action against the Packers and who can blame them with a running back like Cook?
Cousins also found his electric receiver Justin Jefferson multiple times throughout the game. Jefferson found ways to get open all day. There were a few times Jefferson was wide open with no one around him, which is telling of how good of a route runner he is. He had a career-high 184 Yards and two touchdowns.
The Vikings’ defense also played well. They found a way to contain Aaron Rodgers which is a tough task for any defense. They did this by making Rodgers uncomfortable in the pocket. In addition, four different Viking players sacked Rodgers in this game. Furthermore, they also found a way to intercept Rodgers which is rare. Really the Vikings played a perfect game against the Packers. The Eagles will have their hands full next Monday.
Keys to Victory for the Eagles’ DefenseÂ
As for defense, the first and most important key to victory is containing Justin Jefferson. It would not be surprising if the Eagles double-team Jefferson at points in this game. The Packer lost track of Jefferson at times, and they paid for it in a big way. The second key is putting pressure on Cousins. He is a great quarterback and if they give him time to throw then he will pick the defense apart. The Eagles got one sack against the Lions; it would be nice to see the Eagles get more in this one. The last key on defense is containing Dalvin Cook. The Eagles had a hard time doing that against D’Andre Swift last week, but hopefully, the Eagles coaching staff will figure something out.
Keys to Victory for the Eagles Offense
The most obvious key on offense is to get the ball to A.J. Brown. He was a beast in the Eagles game against the Lions. However, the Eagles do need to get other receivers involved. DeVonta Smith really was not a factor against the Lions. It would benefit the Eagles to get him more targets in this one.
Another key to victory is to avoid turnovers at all costs. The Eagles did good a job in this department against the Lions and will need to keep it up in this game against the Vikings. The last key is to keep the run-first offense going. Take advantage of that great offensive line. This worked for them all year in 2021 and it worked against the Lions in Week one. This will open up the passing attack for Hurts. Plus, Hurts can also use his legs, which is another threat for this Eagles’ rushing attack.
This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles week 2 preview.
