The Philadelphia Eagles improved to 8-0 after beating the Houston Texans on Thursday night. This was a surprising test for the Eagles, as the Texans played them well. This article will recap this Philadelphia Eagles Week 9 game against the Houston Texans.
The Eagles Offense
The Eagles relied on Dallas Goedert throughout this game. He had eight receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. He did a great job extending drives and getting first downs. Furthermore, he scored the touchdown that really pulled the Eagles away from the Texans in the fourth quarter. He caught a short four-yard crossing route. The second leading receiver was A.J. Brown. He had 59 receiving yards and a touchdown. This was not the game he had last weekend, but it was still very productive.
Moving on to Jalen Hurts, he had a good game, but it was not without some hiccups. He had 243 yards and two touchdowns. His hiccup came early in the second quarter where he got sacked and fumbled the ball. This led to a Houston recovery. Lastly, Miles Sanders had a great game running the ball. He had 93 rushing yards and a touchdown. He averaged 5.5 yards a carry. Sanders has been consistent for the Eagles all season and he should be a pro bowler by the end of the season. In conclusion, the offense really was not as explosive as other games. However, the Eagles did find a way to win and that is all that matters at the end of the day.
The Eagles Defense
The defense did not have the best game in the world. They had a really hard time stopping the Texans rookie running back Dameon Pierce. He gashed the Eagles’ offense all game and was responsible for the Texans moving the ball against the Eagles. He had 139 yards on the game. The Texans scored the first points of the game, which came as a surprise to many. The defense faced the first adversity since playing the Jaguars a few weeks back.
However, the Eagles did have many bright spots in this game. Javon Hargrave has really become one of the Eagles’ best defensive players. He really knows how to get to quarterback and moves defenses behind the chains. He had seven total tackles and 3 sacks in this game. The Eagles also forced two turnovers. C.J. Gardner-Johnson and James Bradberry both had interceptions in this game. Gardner-Johnson has five interceptions in the Eagles’ last four games. As for tackling, Javon Hargrave, Kyzir White and TJ Edwards all had seven tackles.
Overall, the Eagles showed that they do have flaws in their game. The rushing defense was not great at all. That was responsible for this game being close throughout. However as said before, the Eagles found a way to win despite that, which is a sign of a great team. This concludes this recap of the Philadelphia Eagles Week 9 game against the Houston Texans.
