NFL Week 17 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 17 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 11-4-1
Season: 135-98-1
Christmas Day
Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Chiefs’ defense has played well this season, but the offense is really improving with the returns of Isiah Pacheco and Hollywood Brown. They should be able to start hitting their stride to win and cover on the road.
Pick: Chiefs
Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) at Houston Texans
Houston was a different team after Tank Dell went down with an injury. Baltimore should be able to run the football and it will be hard for the Texans to keep up.
Pick: Ravens
Thursday Night Football
Seattle Seahawks (-3.5) at Chicago Bears
The Seahawks have had an up-and-down season, but are still in the playoff race. Chicago still looks lost offensively, so the Seahawks can take advantage.
Pick: Seahawks
Saturday Games
Los Angeles Chargers (-4.5) at New England Patriots
The Chargers’ defense has the talent to take advantage of a bad Patriots’ offensive line. Justin Herbert will do the rest to get them to cover.
Pick: Chargers
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals (-3)
Cincinnati’s offense can battle with Denver’s defense. The problem is that Cincinnati’s defense will struggle against the Denver offense. Cincinnati win, but it could be closer than the spread.
Pick: Broncos
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams (-5.5)
The Rams have won four straight in a variety of different ways. Arizona has lost four of their last five and are fading down the stretch.
Pick: Rams
Sunday Afternoon
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-1.5)
The Titans showed some offensive life against the Colts in their comeback attempt. Jacksonville lost to the Raiders. If Tennessee keeps the ball on the ground they can win.
Pick: Titans
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-7.5)
Tampa Bay should be able to rebound from their loss to the Cowboys. Carolina has been playing better football as of late and should be able to keep it close.
Pick: Panthers
Indianapolis Colts (-7.5) at New York Giants
Indianapolis is still playing for a playoff spot. The Giants don’t have enough offensive firepower to keep this close.
Pick: Colts
Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints (-1.5)
New Orleans will be on a short week after getting blown out by the Packers. Las Vegas is coming off a win and can keep that momentum going.
Pick: Raiders
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills (-9.5)
The Bills are playing good football, but their last three games have been one-possession games. Seven of the Jets’ losses this season are by one possession. Buffalo will win, but the Jets can keep it close.
Pick: Jets
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (-9.5)
Philadelphia lost last week, but Jalen Hurts had to leave the game. If he is healthy, the Eagles can defeat the Cowboys. Dallas has had better defensive performances since Micah Parsons returned, but the Eagles can cover a large spread at home.
Pick: Eagles
Sunday Evening
Miami Dolphins (-6.5) at Cleveland Browns
The Dolphins still have a chance at a playoff spot. They can score a decent amount against the Browns’ defense, which has regressed this season. Cleveland won’t be able to keep up, as their offense has struggled.
Pick: Dolphins
Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings (-1.5)
The Vikings won the first matchup between these teams, but the Packers are on a roll now too. Jordan Love has played better football down the stretch of the last two seasons and if he keeps it up, the Packers can win on the road.
Pick: Packers
Sunday Night Football
Atlanta Falcons at Washington Commanders (-4.5)
The Commanders seemed to get thing back on track with a win over the Eagles. Atlanta is starting Michael Penix for his second start and it will be hard to keep up with the Commanders’ high-powered offense.
Pick: Commanders
Monday Night Football
Detroit Lions (-3.5) at San Francisco 49ers
The Lions still have a lot to play for at the end of the year, as the division is still up in the air and so too is the top seed in the NFC. San Francisco isn’t the same team this season and will not be able to match the Lions.
Pick: Lions
