Every week MLB teams will be ranked for the rest of the season. Here are the 2022 MLB power rankings for the week of September 12 to help you bet along with some MLB betting sites.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
Record: 96-43
Previous Ranking: 1
The Dodgers have absolutely run away as the best team in the league. They are the only team to clinch a playoff berth and they have the biggest run differential in the MLB by over 100 runs.
2. Houston Astros
Record: 90-50
Previous Ranking: 3
The Astros are in a league of their own, along with the Dodgers, in terms of pitching staffs. They have allowed just 458 runs on the season, good for second fewest in the MLB.
3. New York Mets
Record: 89-52
Previous Ranking: 2
The Mets are clutching to a very small lead in the NL East. They haven’t played bad baseball, but the Braves have just been spectacular. They will need to pick up some momentum down the stretch to secure the division.
4. Atlanta Braves
Record: 87-53
Previous Ranking: 4
The Braves have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, closing a 10-game deficit in the NL East in just a short couple of months. They have a real chance to leapfrog over the Mets and to steal this division.
5. New York Yankees
Record: 85-56
Previous Ranking: 6
The Aaron Judge for MVP train has been on fire all season and as the season begins to wind down, the likelihood of him bringing the award back to New York is looking better by the day.
6. St. Louis Cardinals
Record: 83-58
Previous Ranking: 5
Albert Pujols is just THREE home runs away from reaching 700 career home runs. He would become just the fourth player to ever reach that number. As exciting as the St. Louis season has been, all eyes are on Pujols down the stretch.
7. Tampa Bay Rays
Record: 78-60
Previous Ranking: 7
The Rays have made the AL East race one of the most interesting division races down the stretch. They are within 6 games of the struggling New York Yankees. The division is very much up for grabs.
8. Seattle Mariners
Record: 79-61
Previous Ranking: 8
The Mariners look to have firm control on an AL Wild Card spot, sitting 6 games ahead of the Orioles in the Wild Card race. They have an electric roster and will definitely cause chaos in October.
9. Toronto Blue Jays
Record: 78-61
Previous Ranking: 9
The Blue Jays remain 5.5 games ahead of the Orioles for the final AL Wild Card spot. They should have this spot locked down, unless they enter a complete meltdown over the final month of the season.
10. Philadelphia Phillies
Record: 78-62
Previous Ranking: 10
There are 3 teams battling for 2 spots in the NL Wild Card race, where the Phillies are the best of these 3 teams. Even though they are ahead of the other two, they are just 3.5 games in the Wild Card, where any slip up could result in them missing the playoffs.
11. San Diego Padres
Record: 77-64
Previous Ranking: 11
The Padres need to secure a Wild Card spot in order to salvage a disaster of a 2022 season. They have battled many adversities, but they remain a dangerous team that nobody wants to matchup against in October.
12. Cleveland Guardians
Record: 73-65
Previous Ranking: 14
The AL Central is the most open division in the entire MLB, with 3 teams inside of 5 games of each other. The Guardians are the surprising team, clutching to a 2.5 game lead for the division lead.
13. Milwaukee Brewers
Record: 75-66
Previous Ranking: 12
The Brewers were once considered an almost lock for the NL Central division. But, just a few months later, they are on the outside of the playoffs looking in. The NL Central crown seems out of reach for them.
14. Baltimore Orioles
Record: 73-67
Previous Ranking: 13
The Orioles had a miracle run after the All-Star Break. They looked to be this season’s Cinderella team. But they have returned to earth now, sitting almost 6 games out of a playoff spot.
15. Chicago White Sox
Record: 72-69
Previous Ranking: 16
The White Sox are closer to their division lead than they are to a Wild Card spot. They will need to gain 2.5 games on the Guardians, behind their 3 headed monster of a pitching staff, in order to play in October.
16. Minnesota Twins
Record: 69-70
Previous Ranking: 15
The Twins have suffered one of the bigger collapses in the MLB this year. They were once seen as a lock to win the AL Central, but now, they sit in third place of the division and virtually no chance at a Wild Card spot.
17. Boston Red Sox
Record: 69-72
Previous Ranking: 17
The Red Sox are the only AL East team with a below .500 record this season. The 2022 AL East could join some elite company if the Red Sox can finish above .500, joining just a few other divisions to ever have all 5 teams finish at .500 or above.
18. Arizona Diamondbacks
Record: 66-73
Previous Ranking: 18
The Diamondbacks aren’t a threat to make the playoffs, but they are in a battle against themselves. They have potential to finish the season at .500 or above, needing 15 wins in 23 games to do so.
19. San Francisco Giants
Record: 66-73
Previous Ranking: 19
The Giants need to go at least 15-8 to finish the season at .500. This would be a big confidence boost for their roster after a very disappointing season for the most part.
20. Los Angeles Angels
Record: 61-79
Previous Ranking: 20
Shohei Ohtani has absolutely lit the world on fire as of late, heating up at the plate and on the mound. He has created a real debate on who the AL MVP is. It will be an interesting finish to the season.
21. Colorado Rockies
Record: 61-80
Previous Ranking: 22
The “Coors effect” has proven to be a terrible outcome for pitchers yet again. The Rockies have allowed the most runs in the MLB (770), largely due to playing at such a high altitude at Coors Field for 81 games.
22. Texas Rangers
Record: 60-79
Previous Ranking: 21
The Rangers sit nearly 20 games under .500 but are only -14 runs in the negative for run differential. They prove to be a talented team that has routinely gotten unlucky this season, losing a lot of close games.
23. Miami Marlins
Record: 57-82
Previous Ranking: 23
Sandy Alcantara is just a few weeks away from bringing home a CY Young to Miami. The young flamethrower currently sits as a -175 favorite to win the award.
24. Cincinnati Reds
Record: 56-82
Previous Ranking: 25
The Reds are looking to pass the Cubs and finish above them in the NL Central. The Reds are a very young team, and this feat could provide these young stars some much needed confidence.
25. Chicago Cubs
Record: 58-81
Previous Ranking: 24
The Cubs are in a battle with the Reds for third place in the NL Central. Neither team is close to contending, but finishing above the other could provide some hope and confidence going into 2023.
26. Kansas City Royals
Record: 57-84
Previous Ranking: 26
The Royals are in slight danger of losing 100 games this season. They have 21 games remaining and they must win at least 6 out of those 21 to survive going with at least 100 losses.
27. Detroit Tigers
Record: 54-86
Previous Ranking: 27
The Tigers are the most recent team to be eliminated from the playoffs. The season was quite a down one for Detroit fans. The Tigers remain a few years from contending in the American League.
28. Pittsburgh Pirates
Record: 51-88
Previous Ranking: 29
The Pirates have officially been eliminated from the playoffs this year. The Pirates had an up and down season, reaching as high as 3rd in the NL Central. As of now, they sit in last in the NL Central, the only of the 5 teams to officially be eliminated from the playoffs.
29. Oakland Athletics
Record: 51-90
Previous Ranking: 28
The Athletics were the second team to officially be eliminated from the playoffs. They followed up the Nationals by missing the playoffs in the loaded American League.
30. Washington Nationals
Record: 49-92
Previous Ranking: 30
The Nationals were the first team to officially be eliminated from the playoffs. They have consistently been the worst team in the league, but after the Juan Soto trade, their future doesn’t look too bleak.
