The Seattle Mariners have signed Julio Rodriguez to a massive contract extension. The extension for Rodriguez is reportedly worth at least $210 million guaranteed over 14 years. With incentives, it could grow to “well over” $400 million by the time the contract is finished.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan tweeted about the news on Friday afternoon.
Rodriguez made his MLB debut on April 8, 2022. Through this week, he has amassed a batting average of .271, along with 20 home runs, 64 RBI and 23 stolen bases. He originally signed with the team as an international free agent when he was just 16.
His rise to stardom began on Opening Day, but reached a high during the All-Star break. Rodriguez was named to the 2022 MLB All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby. He was also named the AL Rookie of the Month for June.
