Kansas City Chiefs placekicker Harrison Butker has been ruled out for Thursday Night Football. As the Chiefs take on their AFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, they will use quickly-elevated practice squad player, Matt Ammendola, as their starting kicker.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
Butker is a rarity in the league, in that he was actually drafted by the Panthers in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft., instead of being signed as an undrafted free agent. He made their practice squad, but was signed off of it by the Chiefs in 2017. He’s played for them ever since.
Besides missing a game due to COVID in 2021, he has played in every one of Kansas City’s since 2018. His career field goal percentage sits at 90.1 percent, and his extra point percentage sits at a flat 94 percent. Last season, he missed only three field goals and two extra points.
