A fight between two former champions is set to take place at UFC 300, in April. After a dominant performance and knockout over Brian Kelleher in the final UFC card of 2023. Garbrandt hopped on the mic, and made an unexpected call-out most people would have never expected. He called out for a fight against former UFC Flyweight Champion, Deiveson Figueiredo. Figueiredo had just moved up a division to bantamweight. This callout didn’t make the most sense, considering Garbrandt is currently unranked. To add to that, Deiveson is sitting just inside the top ten at number eight.
This goes to show anything can happen. As first reported by @AgFight, Cody Garbrandt will take on the top ten-ranked Deiveson Figueiredo. The fight will take place inside T-Mobile arena at UFC 300 on April 13th.
Why Would Deiveson Figueiredo Take the Fight?
One question that comes to mind when seeing this post initially was, “Why would Deiveson take this fight?” He’s coming off of a unanimous decision win against a talented bantamweight, Rob Font. At the time, Rob also held a ranking inside the top ten. He went from beating someone ranked in the top ten to a former bantamweight champion who’s currently unranked. Why is that? Money? Maybe he thinks Garbrandt will be an easy fight that will get him a lot of media attention? Who knows. These two fighters will face off on a UFC 300 card that is already stacked to the teeth; the only thing that’s certain.
