The Florida Mayhem are looking to rebound after finishing one spot above the win-less, last place Shanghai Dragons. Heading into season two, only three players remained on the Mayhem’s active roster. The team seemed at a standstill amidst all the World Cup chatter. Now, their latest moves and recent signing of Scott “Bearhands” Tester to their front office show change is on the horizon.
Mayhem’s Roster Roundup
Florida’s roster currently consists of the DPS duo Jeong-Woo “Sayaplayer” Ha and Kevin “TviQ” Linström. They are accompanied by their only remaining Tank, Sung-Hoon “aWesomeGuy” Kim. The remaining players certainly had their share of action in season one. Sayaplayer regularly showed his stuff on his signature hero, Widowmaker. The three will be tremendous building blocks for the Mayhem to build around.
Florida chose to release six players on September 5, 2018 in anticipation of their rebuild.
- Johan “CWoosH” Klingestedt (Tank)
- Andreas “Logix” Berghmans (DPS)
- Sebastian “Zebbosai” Olsson (Support)
- Aleksi “Zuppeh” Kuntsi (Support)
- Tim “Manneten” Bylund (Flex)
- Joonas “zappis” Alakurtti (Flex)
Following the six player release, Koo “xepheR” Jae-mo would be the first to join the Mayhem. XepheR was a flex tank player transferred from the Seoul Dynasty to the Mayhem. Benched in Seoul, xepheR could see a starting role in his future if things pan out.
Later on in September, the Mayhem then promoted Academy DPS Hyeon-woo “HaGoPeun” Jo to the Mayhem starting roster. After starting his Overwatch League career as a flex support for the London Spitfire, HaGoPeun found himself on their inactive roster. He was later acquired by Florida’s academy team with the intent on returning to the Overwatch League for season two. HaGoPeun offers experience and skill to a very needy roster. A welcomed addition.
Days after HaGoPeun’s promotion, the Mayhem made history by announcing the league’s first two-way contract. Damon “Apply” Conti and the Mayhem agreed on a two-way contract heading into season two. The agreement would allow Mayhem’s Contenders and Overwatch League Rosters to share and utilize Apply’s versatility throughout the season. Learn more about two-way contracts here.
Front Office Mayhem
After finding their core, Florida recently announced Scott “BEARHANDS” Tester as their new Assistant General Manager and Head of Scouting. In season one, Scott played an integral role in the assembly of New York Excelsior’s impressive roster as their Director of Player Personnel. Currently, Scott is the General Manager for Team USA for this year’s World Cup. His dominance in New York and on the world’s stage bodes well for Mayhem fans.
Scott had quite a bit of talent at his disposal in New York. With their strongest players already in the building, Scott now begins work on completing a compatible and competitive roster for season two. We wish him luck in the upcoming World Cup and with his new team, the Florida Mayhem.
