Echo is the life’s work of Dr. Mina Liao, a character that Blizzard had previously mentioned as one of the six founding members of Overwatch. Her name has been brought back into the lore discourse recently, as fans got a look at some of the circumstances surrounding Echo’s creation. Liao was involved in creating the prototype of Athena. Additionally, new information presented in Echo’s origin story indicates that Liao was instrumental in creating the omnics, Overwatch’s sentient robotic citizens.
As an expert on artificial intelligence, Liao would be the perfect person to design a character like Echo, designed by Overwatch to assist in ending the omnic crisis.
While we have yet to see Echo’s kit, as well as what role she will play, many fans are hopeful that she will be a support hero. This story will be updated as more details on Hero 32 are revealed.
