The Dallas Fuel have revealed new event details for their homestand Opening Weekend. Dallas kicks off the 2020 season of Overwatch League with the first set of matches in the new format and these new details should make fans happy they’re going.
The 2019 season’s Homestand Weekend proved to be a smashing success among Fuel fans and Overwatch League enthusaists alike. It seems for the 2020 season, the Fuel and their parent organization Envy Gaming are upping the ante.
“An Overwatch-themed Exposition Hall”
In addition to facing off against such teams as the LA Valiant and the San Francisco Shock, Esports Stadium Arlington will be transformed into an “Overwatch Fan Festival.” According to a new press release from the Dallas team, “Fans can play classic carnival games with a gaming hero twist, including the Rocket Punch or the Earthshatter Strength Test, relax in dedicated fan lounges, or show their support for their favorite Overwatch League team by grabbing an airbrush tattoo.” The event also encourages attendees to get creative with their signs, saying “the most creative signs [are] likely to be featured on-air during the Overwatch League broadcast.”
“The fan festival is going to be a huge bonus to everyone coming to experience Opening Weekend for the Overwatch League and Dallas Fuel,” says Justin Rojas, VP of Events for Envy Gaming. “Imagine an intimate, gaming-themed version of the State Fair.”
Tournaments for the Next Generation
In addition to the professional matches slated for the homestand weekend, Dallas Fuel has partnered with several high school and collegiate groups to host esports tournaments for up-and-coming young players. Saturday, February 8 will see a host of middle and high school students participate in the Burleson’s Esports Winter Invitational. College level players will have their time to shine on Sunday, as Blizzard partner TESPA and other organizations bring together college teams across the country for their tournament semifinals and championship matches.
Gaku Space, Voice Actor, Makes an Appearance
Dallas also announced that Gaku Space, the voice actor behind Overwatch hero Genji, would be making a celebrity appearance at the event. Fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet the voice of Genji at panels and other fan events throughout the weekend. Fans will also have the opportunity to obtain a photo or an autograph from Gaku Space at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. each day of the weekend.
