The Dallas Stars will host the Nashville Predators for the 2020 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic. The event will be on New Years Day and will take place at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. This will be the first ever outdoor game for both franchises.
Both teams’ success are models for the league’s non-traditional market. The Predators recent success of making it to the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals made the franchise more attractive for players and fans.
“The opportunity to be a part of another one of the NHL’s premier events on an international stage at the 2020 NHL Winter Classic is so exciting and would not be possible without our passionate fans and the entire Smashville community,” Predators President & CEO Sean Henry.
This will be the first Winter Classic to be played in the south. As technology advanced over the past decade, it made it possible for warm-weathered teams to host outdoor games. We have seen it with Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles, CA) and Levi Stadium (Santa Clara, CA). The next step for this event is making of the Winter Classic Jersey. Could the Stars go back to their original Minnesota North Star uniforms? Can the Predators make another signature jersey? This will be a different but exciting Winter Classic! More coverage to come.
