Dougie Hamilton, RD, Carolina Hurricanes
Dougie Hamilton is the biggest name on the free agency market this offseason and has every team looking his way. Hamilton is one of the best offensive defensemen in the league, scoring 42 points in 55 games this season. Hamilton will be expecting a huge payday this offseason and he will get one in the North, as the Winnipeg Jets, who badly need a defenseman, will offer Hamilton a massive contract to make him their #1 defenseman.
Prediction: Hamilton signs 7-year x $8.5 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets
Alex Ovechkin, LW, Washington Capitals
Alex Ovechkin, the greatest goal scorer in NHL history, is set to hit the free agency market. Ovechkin is a lock for 30+ goals every season and has won nine Rocket Richards in his NHL career. Despite many teams likely being interested in Ovechkin, he’ll end up staying with the team he’s been on his whole career, the Washington Capitals.
Prediction: Ovechkin re-signs with the Washington Capitals on a 4-year x $10 Million contract
Taylor Hall, LW, Boston Bruin
Taylor Hall has had a very interesting career so far, from being MVP in 2018 to going to four different teams in the last four years. After a great playoff run on the Bruins, Taylor Hall will be looking to cash in and sign long-term. Hall will shock the hockey world and go to the Bruins’ biggest rival, the Montreal Canadiens on a big long-term contract.
Prediction: Taylor Hall signs 6-year x $7.5 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens
Tyson Barrie, RD, Edmonton Oilers
Tyson Barrie is an interesting player to evaluate as Barrie is one of the best offensive defensemen in the league putting up great numbers offensively, but his defensive part of the game is very lackluster. The Carolina Hurricanes will take a chance on Barrie to be their Hamilton replacement.
Prediction: Tyson Barrie signs 5-year x $5.5 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes
Gabriel Landeskog, LW, Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche captain, Gabriel Landeskog, is a big power forward that can do it all. Landeskog is a big part of the Avalanche top line with Nathan Mackinnon and Mikko Rantanen which is widely considered the best line in the league. Every team would love a guy like Landeskog on their roster, however, the Avalanche captain will end up staying long-term with the team.
Prediction: Gabriel Landeskog re-signs with the Colorado Avalanche on an 8-year x $7 million contract
