New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has tested positive for COVID-19. He will be unavailable to coach in Sunday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Payton is vaccinated and isolated from the team at this point.
The Saints’ Twitter account confirmed the reports on Friday.

The NFL’s protocols for vaccinated players and staff means Payton could be back before Week 16’s contest. Vaccinated players must isolate and present two negative tests in a 24-hour period and be asymptomatic. Given that he tested positive on a Friday, it is impossible for him to return this week.
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will take over head coaching duties in Week 15 against the Bucs. Allen has head coaching experience with the Raiders for three seasons.
