The Eagles had one of their most complete games of the season against the Detroit Lions this past Sunday. They blew the Lions out of the water in a 44-6 victory. Philadelphia did well in all aspects of the game. On offense, the Eagles found ways to get the ball in the end zone and defensively, they played terrifically holding the Lions to only six points.
The Lions, on the other hand, looked horrendous on both sides of the ball. Jared Goff could not get in any sort of a rhythm in this game, as the Eagles’ pass rush harassed him all game. The defense could not stop the Eagles rushing attack at all and Jalen Hurts also had success passing the ball. Penalties were also a huge problem for Detroit, to add insult to injury.
The Eagles’ rushing attack really shined
The Eagles really focused on running the ball this past weekend and had success in doing so. Boston Scott made the start in this game, as Miles Sanders was out with injury. Furthermore, Jordan Howard was called up from the practice squad to give the Eagles some extra help. Kenneth Gainwell did not get much playing time because of Howard being called up. It seems like he is a third string running back in this line up without Sanders.
This change in the lineup did not hurt the Eagles at all. Boston Scott looked fast and elusive during this game. He was finding holes in the Lions defense all day. He rushed for 60 yards and had two rushing touchdowns on the day. Jordan Howard also looked sharp in this game. He had fresh legs as has been working on the practice squad the whole season before this game. The Eagles’ running back looked stronger than ever, as he seemed tough to bring down all game. Howard ended the day with 57 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well. The team as a whole had 236 rushing yards on Sunday. This was by far the Eagles best game running the ball.
The defense stepped up
The Philadelphia defense also had their best game of the season. They harassed Jared Goff all game. The Defensive line had no problems penetrating the Lions offensive line as the Eagles had six sacks this game. Josh Sweat led the charge with two sacks, as he had a whale of day. The rookie Milton Williams out of Louisiana Tech also got in on the action and recorded his first NFL sack. Other Eagles players who had sacks in this game includes Tarron Jackson, Hassan Ridgeway and Derek Barnett.
Darius Slay also had a great game. He managed to get a scoop and score off of a lion’s fumble. This had to have felt good to him, since he was playing his former team in the Lions. As for tackles, TJ Edwards led the way in that category with 13 total tackles. This is a defensive performance that every Eagles fan can be proud of.
ConclusionÂ
Overall, the Eagles had their best performance of the season. Jalen Hurts took care of the ball and had pretty nice day passing and rushing the ball. His favorite receiver in this game was Dallas Goedert, who had 72 receiving yards. The defense played lights out, as mentioned above. Philadelphia needs to ride this momentum into their next game as they face a tough Chargers team in Philly next weekend.
