The Eagles got a big 21 to 18 victory last Sunday against Sam Darnold and the Carolina Panthers. Philadelphia showed off positive aspects in all parts of their game. The Eagles defense made a lot of big plays to stop Carolina from scoring. The Eagles’ offense came alive very late in the third quarter and into the fourth. Special teams even made a big play that resulted in the Eagles game-winning touchdown. This victory is just the momentum the Eagles needed to get back on track after a three-game losing skid. This article will give a Recap of the Philadelphia Eagles Week 5 game against the Carolina Panthers.
The Eagles Defense impressed in this game
Ladies and gentlemen Darius Slay is back to being the great cornerback we have seen in past years. He made a couple of big interceptions in this game. One interception led to the Eagles’ first touchdown, which resulted in the Eagles’ first points of the game, as they got a field goal. Slay got his second interception in the middle of the third quarter, which did not lead to any Eagles points. Steven Nelson also got the game-winning interception to seal the game for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles also brought pressure to Sam Darnold a lot during this game. Philadelphia had three-sack in this game. Javon Hargrave started the festivities early in the second quarter. He has been one of the bright spots on this Eagles defense this year. Hargrave has 13 solo tackles and 6 sacks on the year. Fletcher Cox also made his presence known by getting his first sack of the year. Josh Sweat also joined in the party and got a sack.
Overall the Eagles impressed on defense the whole game. They made big plays when they needed to and prevented Carolina from scoring points during the Eagles’ offensive struggles.
Special Team played a big role in the Eagles win
The Eagles’ play of the game was a TJ Edwards blocked punt that was recovered by Shaun Bradley. The special team’s play put the Eagles deep into Carolina territory, which the Eagles cashed in on and scored the game-winning touchdown with about two minutes left. This was probably one of the more exciting plays for the Eagles in 2021. Another player that should get mentioned is Jalen Reagor. Reagor had a great 23-yard punt return that put the Eagles in good field position.
The Eagles Offense Struggled on offense a lot of this game
The Eagles looked horrible on offense until about 2 minutes left in the third quarter. There were a lot of dropped passes in this game. DeVonta Smith dropped one early in the game but bounced back from that and had a solid performance. Dallas Goedert also dropped a huge pass in the red zone and in all likelihood would have scored a touchdown.
The Eagles were also plagued by turnovers just like Carolina. Jalen Hurts overthrew his receiver by a ton, which resulted in an interception. This ball should have probably never have been thrown as there were multiple defenders surrounding the receiver. There was also a bad snap that went through the hands of Hurts and \bounced into the end zone. This resulted in an Eagles’ safety.
Jalen Hurts was good with his legs during this game, as he had two touchdowns. He did struggle a little passing the ball as he could not find open receivers the whole game and was also plagued by silly offensive penalties. He passed for 198 yards and one interception. Quez Watkins also had a huge catch during this game that put the Eagles in a position to score. He had three receptions for 48 yards. Overall it was great to see the Eagles bounce back from adversity on offense and manage to win the game. The Eagles have a short week ahead of them as they play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles Week 5 game recap for the Carolina Panthers game.
