This is the next edition of The Philadelphia Eagles Rundown: May 27. This series consists of Eagles’ rumors and newsworthy events that happen within the Eagles organization. This could be anything from charitable events that the Eagles are participating in, to player and game analysis once the NFL season begins. Lastly, this series will cover rumors and changes to the Eagles roster. This edition will cover Ryan Kerrigan’s jersey number in Philadelphia. The article will also cover the Eagles possibly being a dark horse in the running for former Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones. The last topic is what Jalen Hurts thinks about DeVonta Smith from his experiences at Alabama.
Ryan Kerrigan’s jersey number
Ryan Kerrigan’s jersey number for the Washington Football team has always been number 91. He will be sporting a new number in Philadelphia. Kerrigan will be wearing number 90 throughout the Eagles 2021 season. His original number is already taken by Eagles veteran Fletcher Cox. The is a good thing for Kerrigan, as it will symbolize a new start with a different team. Kerrigan has also stated in the past week that he has plan to become an impactful player in the locker room and on the field. He should fit into this role nicely and become a veteran leader in Philadelphia .
Julio Jones a dark horse to be on the Eagles in 2021
The Eagles already picked up Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith in the draft. This added much needed depth to the wide receiving core. Jones is now a dark horse to be traded to the Eagles. Picking up Julio Jones would push the receiving core to the next level and possibly could even win the NFC East if this Eagles team can show chemistry on the field. Jones has had great numbers in the past with the Atlanta Falcons. Jones only played nine games on the falcons in 2020, but he still produced big time in those games. He racked up 771 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his shortened 2020 campaign. Jones has dominated the league in receiving for most of his entire career. Before 2020, he had six straight 1,000 yard receiving seasons. The former Falcon has made the Pro Bowl seven times in his NFL career.
Jones is an expensive pick up and the Eagles will need to get rid of some cap space to snatch him. The Eagles would have to make a very sweet trade deal to have a chance at the prospect of Jones. The Eagles still have Zach Ertz on the roster to deal. The question is: are the Falcons interested in the Eagles star tight end? The Falcons added Kyle Pitts to their roster in the draft, who will surely make an impact in Atlanta. Pitts is a dynamic tight end that can do both the receiver position and tight end, so the Falcons could make this duo work. The Eagles can also afford to give away some future draft picks to pick up Jones. Another factor is if Jones would even be interested in a trade to Philadelphia. The Eagles are in the middle of a rebuild and odds are it will take a few years to have a Super Bowl caliber team in Philadelphia. Jones is going to want a team that has a chance of winning right away. Time will only tell where Julio Jones will land during the 2021 offseason.
Jalen Hurts has high praise for DeVonta Smith
During a press conference, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had a couple of comments on his newly acquired weapon and former teammate, Alabama’s DeVonta Smith. In the interview, Hurts said that Smith is a great competitor. He also said that Smith is self-driven and he will bring a good presence to the team. Hurts also talked about hosting Smith during a recruiting visit at Alabama; Smith did not want to have fun out on the town, instead he wanted to get to work in Alabama’s indoor facility. It’s great to see that Hurts has so much respect for Smith and what he does on the field. Hurts is also familiar with playing with Smith from there Alabama days.. This  could have all the makings of a dynamic duo in Philadelphia if Hurts starts in 2021.
