Free agency is in full swing around the NFL. The Eagles have already made one big move as they signed Hasson Reddick earlier this week. Philadelphia has also made other moves involving players that were on the team last year. These players include Fletcher Cox, Boston Scott and Greg Ward. All of this and more will be talked about as we track what the Philadelphia Eagles are doing within free agency.
Fletcher Cox is staying after all
We learned yesterday that the Eagles released long time Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. This did not come as a shock as there have been rumors throughout the year that the Eagles may let him go. Fast forward hours later and NFL fans learn that Fletcher Cox will being staying on the Eagles after all. It is reportedly a one-year contract with 15 million dollars of guaranteed money. Fletcher Cox is a six-time pro bowler. He is known for being a menace for opposing quarterbacks as he has 58 career sacks. Furthermore, Cox has racked up 313 solo tackles throughout his 10-year career with the  Eagles.
Boston Scott has been re-signed
The Eagles did not tender Boston Scott. However, Philadelphia re-signed him to a one year deal as they did with Fletcher Cox. This means the Eagles will keep some of their depth at running back.
Scott was instrumental in the success of the Eagles offense during the 2021 season. He stepped up when Miles Sanders was dealing with injuries, and he also was a great back up to Sanders. Scott is a smaller running back who known for his speed and elusiveness. He has been on  the Eagles for four years as he racked up 992 career yards while he was in Philadelphia. He also has 13 career touchdowns. It will be exciting to see Scott in a Eagles uniform once again in 2022.
Greg Ward staying with Eagles
It is also reported that the Eagles will keep wide receiver Greg Ward. He has signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia. Ward has had a up and down career with the Eagles. He started off with the Eagles in 2019 where he had 254 receiving yards and one touchdown. His stats improved the next year in 2020 as he had 419 receiving yards and six touchdowns. It seemed like he was becoming an important part of this Eagles offense, but his playing time really dwindled in 2021. He was targeted only 11 times for 95 yards.
This could be partly due to the Eagles having more depth in 2021. The Eagles brought in Devonta Smith, who played light out for Philadelphia as he was close to having 1,000-yard rookie season. Philadelphia also has Quez Watkins who has shown glimpses of greatness as he is speedy and can come down with the big catches.
This is only the beginning of the free agency period. The  Eagles will be looking to sign more big names so they can be a playoff contenders once again in 2022. This Concludes looking at the Eagles free agency in this edition of the Philadelphia Eagles Rundown.
